Budget priced scopes

Think'n about a new scope for my .243, standard 3x9x40 should work but wouldn't hesitate on a good fixed power (have a 4x40 Nikon but think'n its a bit small), look'n for something reasonable in price & solid in performance.

What do ya'll suggest ??

What is important to you? Graduated reticle? Matching reticle and turrets? Glass quality? Illumination? Variable power? At a budget price point, you can only pick one or two - get back to us on those and we can give you more guidance. And as above....what is budget to you?

Been eyeball'n the Redfields & been a fan of weaver for years, basicly look'n for entry level, have no use for a upper end piece of glass for my needs, besides I cant shoot that great anyway.

FoxFire,Well you will start shooting better with a little clearer scope. Don't sell yourself short, the more you shoot the better you will get. Fixed will work, but variable is nice to have when you need it. I always hunt on lowest setting and turn it up if I need to for longer shots. Buy as good a scope as you can afford.

I'll post to this thread since it seems to be answering most of the questions I have as well. I've narrowed my search down to the Vortex Crossfire II but can't decide whether to get the 4-12x44 or the 3-9x50. I may be splitting hairs here but only have experience with a 3-9x40 scope. I like the extra magnification on the 44mm objective but wonder if the 50mm objective will benefit me more for use during night time hunting, allowing better light with my gun-mounted LED until I can hopefully upgrade to the scope mounted NV in the future. I hate to ask questions that seem trivial but my budget doesn't allow for a lot right now. Both scopes are the same price. Thanks in advance.

Skip the Crossfire, buy this:

And thank me later.........

You won't find a better scope for the price.........

Thanks. Checking that out now. I like what I see. Will this slight downsize in objective hinder me any at night? 100 yards or less for night time hunting.

Nope. Easily better optics than a Vortex Crossfire or Diamondback. Glass comparable to a Viper. Plus they are tough, light, and track well. Would go great on a 243 hunting rifle. I have owned a bunch of them..........

I was in the same boat last year. I had my mind made up to buy a Vortex. I was impressed by their binos, and figured the scopes would be great too. The day before, a box store had the Nikon Monarch in the bargin cave for 60% off. So I ended up with the Nikon. I did learn an important lesson. When buying a new gun, make sure to budget money for good glass. There is a difference.
