Building a BAT rifle. What caliber??

I want to build a rifle with a polished BAT S or SV action. Sheshane stock or similar. This will be a prairie dog/bench rifle. Weight is not an issue. I would like to keep it under 13 pounds.

Caliber is my obstacle to overcome before I start.

I have 13 rifles chambered in the 17 cals. I think I have all the 17s I need. I also have 20 VT, .204 Ruger and 20BR.
With this said I will limit my calibers to the 204 and 224 calibers.
I am leaning toward a 22BR or 22 Dasher. I have considered the 20-250 or 20-222.

I look forward to your suggestions.
If anyone wants to part with a BAT action or Sheshane style stock contact me.

Thanks,
Bob

Bruno's usually keeps several BAT's in stock. A buddy just ordered a multi-flat from him.

To bad you didn't post earlier. You missed a smoking deal on a BAT/Shehane/Krieger finished build on 6BR.com Sunday. It was a complete build ready to shoot. It was cheap enough you could have replaced the unfired barrel & still been way in the green (if you needed a caliber change).

If you have that many small guns, you should go for a 6BRX or Dasher for the windy days. 6mm rules.

I was at Bruno's last month in Scottsdale. He had two in stock said it would be 3 to 6 months before he gets any more.
I have a couple 243s that are tack drivers.
6.5x284 for my windy days.
I will have to keep my eyes open. My buddies is a multi flat also.

I'd vote for the .20 or .224 in either BR or Dasher. The .20 Dasher posts some nice numbers, but probably not that far off from your .20 BR. .22 BR accuracy is hard to beat though.

Correct me if I am wrong. Is not the 20-222 the same as the .204 Ruger? I would suggest a .223AI with a tight twist barrel. Or you could look at a 22-243. I think either of these will be my next build.

A 20-222 is not the same as a 204, but 222 MAG is the Parent CASE for the 204. A bit more powder capacity with the mag case.
I had a 20 Dasher and 17 PPC built on a BAT SV on 9 twist Liljas. Great shooters and cool cartriges. I think it really depends what your intended use is. I have a 22-243 AI that I have shot dear and rodents with. A couple of mule dear at 505 and 520 yds with 80 ad 90 grain bullets. Taken rock chucks out to 700 and hit steel plates at 1000 yds. The BAT's could do these distances in ideal conditions, but would not attempt to take somthing as large as deer.

I think if I ever do another SV I'll do a 20 Vartarg or 20 VT turbo (20-222). The 22 Dasher woul be cool too.

I found a deal on a 6mmBR in a polished Borden action. Looks like I may buy this one for the time being. I can get a new barrel in 22 BR later.

Some cases for comparison.........

221 Fireball --- 222 Rem --- 223 REM --- 223 Ackley --- 222 Rem mag --- 22-204

No problem.

I forgot to include a regular 204 case when I took the pic, but you get the idea with the 22-204 brass, as there's no other changes to the dimensions other than the necking up.
