In another post I showed pictures of a Carbon/Kevlar stock that I made for a CZ 527. This process can be used for any stock. Several people commented on it. So I'm going to describe how to build it.
It really wasn't that difficult. I started with a CZ stock. I greased the inside and outside really well, then packed the inside solid with Bondo. I filled the mag well half way up also. I left it a little high on top and pressed it up side down on wax paper, leaving a little depression for the top edge of the stock. When it set up, 5 minutes, I tapped the action and barrel channel out of the wood stock, using a couple of bolts. This became the mold for the action and barrel channel.
Next I made a plaster paris casing of the left and right side of the stock. The stock was first filled in with modeling clay with a line scribed down the center of the action area and barrel channel. Action screw holes where also filled leaving a depression so they could be found, as well as the magazine well. Then greased very well with axle grease.
I built a temporary box long enough for the stock about 4 inches high. I poured in some plaster paris so the stock could be pushed into the PP, leaving about a half inch under the stock. More PP was poured into the box until it was up to the scribed center line, half way. I used some bullets placed half way into the PP for registration. The PP was let to set over night.
Next day I greased the upper side of stock and set PP. Use a lot of grease. Cover this side with PP so it is several inches thick. Let set for a day or two. Then carefully separate the boxes. Carefully separate the top PP mold. Carefully remove the stock from the lower casing. Now you have two molds for the right and left sides.
Next cut a lot of Carbon/Kevlar cloth into 1 1/2 X 3/4" pieces. I started with the action and barrel channel mold, working with it pointing upward. I first coated it with epoxy resin then work small pieces of carbon/Kevlar cloth on to the mold. Each add piece of cloth has to be saturated with resin. Cover the entire piece so it has about an 1/16" to 1/8" of cloth and resin. The entire piece has to be saturated with resin. Work wet on wet. If the epoxy sets up it will form a blush which has to be washed off for new epoxy to set to it. Work wet on wet. Also at this time you add stiffeners to the action and barrel channel. Popsicle sticks or 3/8 X 1/6" aluminum inbedded in the resin and Carbon/Kevlar cloth. This shouldn't be more than 3/16" thick as it will add weight. Remember the top edge which is now on the bottom, build up the action and channel area until it is half the thickness of the depression area. This is a flange to epoxy to the top edge of the stocks. When done you can hammer nails with this piece.
Stock sides. Coat the entire inside mold with resin, add small pieces of Carbon/Kevlar cloth, saturate each added piece with resin. Add cloth until three to four layers, no more as it adds weight. You can embed pieces of hardwood in areas were the sling studs will be inserted. 1 1/2 X 3/4". Round the edges so the two stock half's can come together. Also in the pistol grip shape purple insulation foam and embed it half way into the grip leaving half above which will be embedded into the other stock half. Cut and embed a thin piece of hardwood (1/2") in the butt to attache a butt pad to.
Put the two half stock together, hold together with masking tape. Epoxy together and add pieces of cloth the entire length of the top and bottom seams. When set inset the action and barrel channel. Epoxy in.
