I'm looking for good bulk ammo for a 223, I'm shooting it out of a Remington VTR. I picked up a box of 50 Hornady 55gr SP for around $28. Is that going to be my best bet? I'm just a budget minded hunter!

I like the Remington 50 grain HP's in their 40 round value pack. I've been getting them for $24.95 per box since the price hike. My Colt AR-15 shoots them very well.

I just bought a box of Remington 50gr HPs a couple weeks ago for that very reason, I put a AR Varminter together and wanted to try them out, I wasnt able to get very much feedback on them in other forums though, I heard at one time that the American Eagle 50gr HP was a very accurate loading, the past 6 weeks or so Dicks Sports has had the Remington UMC 55gr MC stuff on sale for like 7.97 per 20 so I have been hitting that off and on for blasting ammo out of my ARs.

I also bought those same Hornady rounds you are referring to. They shoot same POI at 100 yards as my hunting load, Hornady 55 gr V-Max. Where they fall short of the V-Max is over the 200 yard mark. The V-Max shoots flatter and hold tighter groups. Other than that, I plan on using them for areas where I know a long shot will not be needed. I've tried other budget ammo (Wolf, PMC, etc.) and have not had much luck with consistency.

I have been having great luck with the Winchester White Box .223 45 gr. HP's, in the 40 round bulk pack at Wally World.. They shoot as good as my best handloads in my Remington 722.. I'm talking 1/2" or better at 100 yards.. Velocity over my CED chropnograph is running 3450 fps..

The WalMart out here in SW Kansas has 55 gr FMJ and thats it. I have talked to them people about getting smaller gr bullets but they just don't listen. I would have to travel half way across the state to buy some 40's or 45 gr hollow point.

Grafs has some different ones available with that VTR you should stay closer to 55 gr if you can iwth the 1-9 twist

They have some fiocchi and armscor vmaxs soft points hp etc

I have a Stevens in 223 it also has a 1in 9 twist. I used some of the Walmart 200 round bulk someone else pointed out. It is a fedral 50 grain Hollow point. It shot good out of my gun. At the time 2 yrs ago or so it 76 bucks foer 200, not bad for as good as it worked.
