On coyotes where do you put the bullet

Broadside, in line with the front leg and about 3/4 up the body. I prefer the high shoulder but heart, lungs, even liver will get the job done...eventually.

I second the high, in line with front leg spot. Gotta take out the 4 wheel drive. Dumps em on the spot, plus enough bullet & bone fragment pieces flying around in there to cause plenty of damage.

Depends on what I'm shooting , 17gr - 180 gr. Coming ,going or broadside matters also.

17 cal 30 gr in the back of the head running straight away is perfect ! Running straight way with same bullet in the arse, not so much..lol
62gr TSX via 223ai really don't matter which end you start from.

I only hunt coyotes when pelts are prime October 15 to end of January. I hate sewing up pelts

A 30 gold does a pretty good job of breaking them down on a Texas heart shot. Folds them up often, but puts them down and makes for an easy follow up most of the other times.

Funny you mention that. I've hit them in various non lethal spots with hi speed 17s. They go down like hit with lightning until their systems check says , get the flock out of here..

What does time of year have to do with shot placement ?

If you don't kill them , you're not skinning or sewing hides.

Did a Texas heart shot on a hog @ 20 yds, 40sw. Dang thing still ran 100 yds on 3 legs with a broken jaw.

With my BFR it don't seem to make much difference. A .458 dia. 365 grain hard cast puts 'em down with one shot no matter where you hit them.

I have experience with Texas heart shots from a 17 Remington. The last time this happened to me, the coyote took four shots, not pretty.

Through both shoulder blades and if facing, center of chest, up towards neck.

I aim for the top of the heart from any direction.
