Bullet pulling

I have about 30 .204 rounds that are not powder charged or primed ( a result of a great grand daughter wanting to help)
I want to pull the points with out damage.
The points are too lite (32 grainers) to use the hammer type and I don't have a collet for the RCBS in .204.
Any Ideas on how to do this with out damage to the case or the bullet ?
 
I don't see how they can be to light for the inertia puller? Sounds like you tried it? The next option may be to get the smaller adapter for the collet puller.
 
stick a small piece of foam in the bottom of your hammer puller so when the bullets hits the front it doesnt damage the tip. either way slightly deformed tips wont effect accuracy. look at soft point bullets, those tips are never uniform
 
I did try the inertia puller and hit as hard as possible on a concrete floor and they don't move at all .
The problem I have with buying the .204 collet is every where I check they want more for the shipping then the cost of the collet. So I am looking for another way to do it.
 
I have the Hornady collet puller I acquired recently, works great. I don't have a 20 cal collet though.

I like the idea above of a pad inside the hammer to protect the bullet. I have used the inertia hammer on occasion for many years. One doesn't want to hit hard enough to break the hammer. I find it takes multiple moderate whacks to loosen a snug bullet, maybe 10 or more.

I'd try multiple moderate whacks, short of what may break the hammer. The bullet should eventually loosen.
 
i know it may sound wierd but I use a piece of 4x4 lumber that has a nice big knot in the middle. Wack the knot, it works. It may take a few good wacks. I tried hitting it on concrete, my workbench and many other things years ago for some reason this works the best..
 
i have yet to see a hammer puller breakm the directions say to whack it on oncrete or other hard surface. You may just have to beat the [beeep] out of it!! and make sure after 2-3 whacks re-tighten the nut on the back, mine seems to work itself loose and then it is not effective anymore.

The pad idea was my old mans, hes used it for years and years, only downfall is if you have poweder in the cases but since you dont the pad works great to protect tipped bullets

I put a WTB in the classifed for a .204 collet but may have to buck up and pay the high shipping cost.
 
I've never tried this, and it may sound silly. BUT since they aren't primed how about an airblower with a rubber tip and about 150psi of air?

P.S. point in safe direction just in case it works really well
 
if its only 30 take the die out of your press push the bullet up put vise grips tight on the bullet with the grigs sideways so they dont mess you press up, its only 30 bullets...ditch them, i have pulled many that way..
 
If you was closer you could stop over and use my 20 cal collet rcbs puller.
I have never had an issue pulling them w/my inertia pullers. I have had foam in my inertias to protect the tips for 40 yrs at least.

Busted 2 of them. A Dillion and an RCBS. Went to the Hornady collet and will never look back.
 
i use the hornady,i had to pull some25gr 17bullets it was a pain you have to hit them so hard and not once i thought the hammer was going to explode.i only did about three or four that was enough.i know what you mean,the cam lock works great.
 
I use a knock out pin from an injection mold thorough the flash hole to gently tap out bullets that are in unprimed cases. I reuse the same bullet over and over testing seating depth. I support the shoulder of the case with a piece of barrel steel that has the correct shoulder angle cut with the chamber reamer. You could just as easily drill a hole in a piece of wood to support the case. It doesn't harm the bullets in any way. Simply tap them out of the neck gently and you are all set. Costs near nothing and works EVERY time.

This is what I was thinking, since they are not primed, tap them out through the flash hole. I was thinking you should use a drill bit or spring tempered straight wire. The only other option is to use a pair of pliers to grab the bullet and pull out with a press. That would ruin the bullet but save the case. Good Luck!
