Bulzeye Optical Booster

I am in the market for a new scope for a hunting rifle. I would like to stay in the 3-9 or 3-10 power range to keep the weight and size down in the field, but when working at the range for load development, I'm not sure that 9 or 10 power would be enough.

I cannot afford to buy two scopes, but I am looking at the Bulzeye Optical booster lenses which I could slip on at the range and remove for hunting.

Has anyone tried these on a non-adjustable objective scope? If so, what were the results?

Why wouldnt you just put the money towards a scope with a broader magnification range..... say 3-12 or better.

Just remember, the more panes of glass you look thru, the poorer the scenery.

I would like to keep the size and weight down which is why the 3-9 power scopes are most appealing. I am also working on a limited budget around $300 and the higher power scopes get expensive fast. I can get higher quality glass for that price in 3-9.

If the booster works as advertised then I could use it for multiple scopes at the range and remove it for hunting where I don't need the additional magnification and it wouldn't reduce light transmission.

Maybe I am hoping for too much, but I am curious how well the optical boosters work.

Well there is no "majic" in the real world. When you get something you have to give something... But; today is your lucky day. Someone that has actually USED & HAS EXPERICE with the product in question, is on the optics forum (LOL).

I bought one of the B.O.B.'s for a 3.5x15 nightforce but in the back of my mind was really wondering how it would look on the 12x42

. I'll start by saying that it does work. Just maybee not as good as one might hope. First off, the advertising is a little tricky. Such as the "3X" or "4X" labeling. Leads one to beleive it's 3 times the magnification. Actually its more like .3 times. So it would pretty much take a 3x9 scope to a 4x12 (3.9x11.7 are the "close to" numbers). Also the booster REALLY changes your focus. You really have to crank to get it refocused; picture & retical (although 99% clarity is regained). Also it throughs the adj objective off, scope markings won't even be close. The only other notable side effect is that it also "zoom's" your retical. It will also become larger/thicker. If you can live with all that the booster works pretty good.

For a hunting scope I would not recommed one, especially in the $ range your talking. Fur was spot on! Take the $100+ & put it with the $300 you have & get a MUCH better, lower power scope. The 3x9 conquest or 2.5x8 Lupy would be list toppers.

Ive had a 4x competition model for a couple years.
I am hapy with mine and could not have worded a review any better than coleridge did.

I also have several of them. If there is a niche for these it's on the LER pistol scopes. I have used these optics on a number of SP's over the years. The problem with the 3-12x Burris that i like to use was always that it was designed for IHMSA shooting where the shot is made at arms length usually. That's OK until you're a hunter and use it on a center grip XP-100 from prone with a bipod and u can't get a full FOV at arms length now. The boosters shorten eye relief just enough so you don't have to contort to get a shot off from this position, and has been mentioned does increase power somewhat (basically the 3-12x becomes a 4-16 depending on which one u get). Another nice thing about the booster is that it does also make the Ballistic Plex reticle larger as well (proportionally to power meaning subtension actually remains the same), which makes interpolating between stadia lines easier and more precise. But u have ot be careful which one u get and which model Burris u have. The earlier models have a thinner lock ring giving more adjustment for focal length. Mine has to be screwed in all the way to get it to focus properly with my glasses on.

Another optic i use it on are custom 36 and 24x Leupolds that've been converted to LER (basically making it an IER) for use with SP's and more user friendly even from the bench.

Here a 4x (40% increase) on a 3-12x Burris and the custom Leupold--
