Burris scopes; Made in the USA? Mine has a Philipenes sticker on it.

It was always my understanding that the Burris optics were made in Greely, Colorado, and that their scopes were assembled in the good ole USA. I bought one on e bay and it has a "made in the Philippines" on the bottom of the tube.

Did I buy a grey market, off brand, pirate sum [beeep]??
It seems to perform well, but in the event I need service,..what will that be like? I have contacted them twice with out a return.

The cheaper Fullfield II scopes that come with the spotting scopes or binoculars are made in the Phillipines. I think all the higher end Burris scopes are still made in the US.
 
Burris and Leupold both went over seas for some of their optics. If you look real close you will not see the old "Made in the USA" only in their adds any more. Tom.

Sorry to read about the shoddy CS you had to put up with at Burris.

I have a Fullfield, which was taken out hunting this season and is now condensating inside the glass whenever temperature drops to the low 50's. I am going to send it in next week or two. Hope I do not have to go through the run around as you did.
 
Let's see now a shoddy scope made in the USA is better than a shoddy scope made in the Philippines? I'm confused.

To put a twist on Forrest Gump, "Shoddy is as as shoddy does".

In my mind, political boundaries have no impact on quality. It is either a good scope or not.
 
You couldn't give me another Burris. I have two (FFII and a Compact) and they both suck. I'd take Bushnell or a Nikon before considering Burris.
 
I will never own a Burris scope again. I have had the worst customer service I personally have ever seen in a company, and I talked with someone claiming to be the vice president of the company too!! Their glass is good. CS sucks in a big way. Gordon at the CS dept. should be fired!
 
I remember..I think it was two or three year's ago,There was quite a commotion with some guy's because they bought Burris scope's & assumed they were USA made..It seem's to me @ the time Burris advertised USA made in catalog's & such,yet only certain model's were & are..I notice they no longer promote themselve's in that fashion.

Best of luck to you. Make sure you document everything and try to get names if you can.

I am NOT trying to throw anyone under the bus, just reporting my experience. I never told them that I was more less keeping a journal but as you read, it did cost them future sales by a couple of fellas.

I have a couple of Nikon scopes and they are just fine but I do love my Leupolds and will continue to buy them. They have the best CS in the business! To me, its worth paying more and getting more when you really need some help.

Burris assembles some, but not all, of the FFII scopes in the Phillipines on machines that are identical to the ones built in the US. Pentax sells scopes that are sourced from Burris, and other sources, including China (Gameseeker series).
 
I'll never buy another Burris again. I bought a Euro Diamond 3.5-10, an almost $500 scope. On low power the distortion at the outside edges was laughable, but not very funny! Described it to a couple friends, but until they looked through it they really underestimated my complaints. They also were shocked. It also had two chips in the finish in the objective bell. Called Burris, they were very helpful, saying send it in we'll fix it. Took 3-4 weeks to get it back. They took a permanent marker and touched the nicks with it to cover them up! Looked through the scope, same exact condition. Called again, guy said they would either fix it again or replace it. Again, very helpful I thought. Another few weeks passed, got the scope back, (with a NEW nick in the bell) and same thing, no change at all. Called them back and told them that I've looked through $60 scopes with tons less distortion than this thing had. They then said "the scope is perfect." WOW! First time shame on them, second time shame on me. Bye Burris...
 
Some of the models are assembled in the US, all the optics are ground in Asia either Japan, Tiawan,the PI or Maylaysia. Only one scope is still totally made in the US
