Burris Speed Bead

Thinking about getting a Burris Speed Bead for my shotgun, just thought I would ask everyones opinion/experiences with it. So far from what I can gather it seems to be a pretty decent product.

I dont know anything about them, but have also been looking
at them does any one know how how reliable the mounting
system is and if its metal or plastic?

The mount for my 11/87 is steel and they are very cool indeed. It lowers the sight height so far that it points perfectly.

I dont know if id like it for general shotgunning but for predator hunting or turkey hunting it's awesome.

Some folks are very good with a shotgun. Those that shoot considerably more than I do now. (I used to shoot a bunch). As I got older and my neck and muscles got stiffer and my eyes got worse, shooting a shotgun with bifocals is a trick. My point and shoot reflex seemed to suffer. I tried the scope type red dot units and they were great for turkey fox etc. But there still was a problem with flying targets. I decided to try the Speed Bead. For me it is a fantastic improvement. The reason I believe is because it forces me to keep my head on the stock. My wing shooting has improved 100+ percent. The first time I tried it I took 4 out of 5 crows as they came in to a call. That was with 5 shots. It allows me to shoot as I used to with both eyes open and have that little red dot to verify where I am shooting. I like it.

It will work for night hunting predators also but the dot flickers it is not to distracting but I would like it just to remain lit. It has no weight to it and does not distract from the handling of the gun.

I have one of the very first ones they made they were so new at the time that the mount did not fit my SBE so I had to rework it to fit.
I wear glasses and my shotgun shooting started to suffer,I think I am in my third duck season with it and I can tell you after you get used to it I would never be without a speedbead again.
I use mine for duck hunting and their is no more guess work on if I have mounted my shotgun correct or not.
As long as you see the small red dot in front of the duck you are on target reguardless if you have proper cheek weld or shoulder mount.
No more guess work on how far your lead is.
As you can tell I am in love with mine and will not be without one on my duck gun again.
Once you get used to it you dont even look for the red dot it just comes narural.
BANG-DUCK DRT

This has got me very interested. I used to be a much better shotgunner then I am now, I've fallen out of practice.

How is it that you can still see the red dot with the gun mounted incorrectly? I don't doubt you, but I've never used a red dot sight so I don't know. Is it that you can't see the bead with out your head mounted correctly, or that its always in the right spot?

And with the SBE, can you still use the inserts for stock fit?

The whole idea of the speedbead is to take out any of your imperfections and thought process about mounting your gun properly(within reason). As long as you can see the dot and target it will hit where the dot is pointed no mater how the gun is mounted.
The speedbead comes with all the mounting attchments you need.
If you are talking about the shims that come with your shotgun for castoff of the stock I took mine out and have not seen a reason that they would now be needed.
At Times my dot does not appear to be centered over the barrel but that is because I have not mounted the gun correctly but it makes no difference just find the target and dot and pull the trigger.

i got one on a super black eagle II.

its badass but i wouldn't spend my money on it again. according to my trap and skeet coach, if you learn how to properly mount your gun, you dont need something like that. when properly mounted, the gun points wherever you are looking and all you do is pull the trigger. if your gonna turkey hunt or hit yotes on the run etc, itd be a good buy.

theyre not even legal in competitions here so im taking mine off soon.

jackh, that is the point. As I stated in my previous post I don't shoot as much, that plus I am getting older and less flexible, I am able to shoot much better with the Speed Bead. If I were still shooting trap or skeet I may not have lost my skills. But for someone who doesn't shoot weekly or a couple of times a week it is a great addition to your equipment. Your coach would also be aware of muscle memory which is acquired with learning to shoot trap and skeet. For that matter when shooting pool or bowling. Practice and training.
For the question by the OP it is an option he should pursue in my opinion. Yep I like it!
