Bushmaster M4 ???

I've been shopping around for an AR for a while. I ran into a guy last week that said he had a Bushy he wanted to get rid of. It's not exactly what I want but I think I can get it for a REAL good price. It's got the carry handle and the 14.5" barrel with Izzy compensater. Idealy I want an AR so that I can use it for a walking rifle while yote hunting and get a 25wssm upper from DTECH for the rest of my hunting.

What kind of accuracy can I expect out of the short M4 upper?

Can I add a freefloat forearm to help it out?

Thanks Budmandan

With a 11.5" barrel, it would have to have a 4.5" flash hider of some sort and be permanently attached . Other wise it is considered an SBR and requires special permits and paper work. You would probably be better off getting a stripped lower and parts kit then buy a complete upper that better suites your needs. You are going to find out that the 11.5" barrel is very loud.

Used the M4 in Baghdad......very accurate. I had a Aimpoint scope on mine. The Heavier bullets in the the range of 62 or 64 seem best because of the rate of twist in the barrel.
Lose a little velocity due to shorter barrel....but accuracy still good....to 250 or 300 yards.....but best served under that.

I brought back my Surefire Tactical light and Surefire Handguards I have them on ebay real cheap now!

I recently bought a Bushy M4 with 14.5" tube. It probably will not take the place of my bolt action rifles but last Saturday I fired an entire magazine (30 rds), rapid fire from a rest at 50 yds into a 1" circle. My reason for purchasing was to handle two legged varmints but its capabilities seem to be greater. BTW, I have an EOTech site on it.

I bought a Bushmaster M4 last summer. It has a 16" barrel. Accuracy at 100 yards is around 3/4" to 1 1/2" in general with a variety of bullets. I'm having pretty good results with 65 grain Sierra Spitzer Boat Tails right now. I have a Simmons Atec 2.8X10 illuminated reticle on mine. Have shot two bobcats and a turkey with it, but all were close range. It's accurate enough for the type of gun it is, but better accuracy can be had by going to a match grade upper. I read somewhere on the forums here about the 25 wssm and it was impressive.

6mm06, I just bought the exact same gun and was considering my scope options. I was leaning toward the Aetec, it looks pretty good and fits my budget. Exactly what did you use to mount it and is the front sight visible through the scope? Thanks El Tirador /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Using the M4 Carbine and the Trijicon TA01NSN ACOG, we had decent work keeping ball ammo in a 19"X40" and mostly center mass out to 600 yards. It's a 4X scope with a calibrated reticle for 62 gr FMJ. Makes for nice and quick ranging too.

There are cheaper places to get this scope also. Just the one I link to as I don't want to show preference to one shop or another.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, shooting off the magazine did NOT cause malfunctions and worked great as a monopod.

Farmer, that is the same scope I use on my RRA 16 varminter, I like the 60 grain v-max, and I like the ranging system in the scope too.

Both of those were issued to us. I do plan on putting one on an AR when I finally get one. It will be a 16" carbine and a 20" floated bull barrel

Just gotta finish the M14 project first.

I have a BM 16" and accuracy to 300 yds is great, beyond that I haven't messed with it much. Just using open sights with the carbine barrel though. If you can get a good price on it, I'd jump on it, swapping the barrels if you want to isn't hard at all, and cheaper than an entire new upper.

ElTirador,

I used Warne Ultra High rings that are specifically designed for AR use. I got mine at Natchez Shooters Supply in Tennessee. They are quick detach and return to zero. I think they cost about $79.00 or so - worth it.

So far I like the Simmons Atec scope. It seems to hold zero quite well and I haven't had any problems with it. It came with a sunshade and I stuck it on there since I had it. I think this particular one has been discontinued, so if you want one, better find it quick. The new Atecs don't have the ample eye relief that the old ones do. Mine is 5"; the new ones are somewhere in the 3" something range. The illuminated reticle works well. I haven't had the scope but a few months, but so far, it's a great scope for the money. Actually, I'd like to have another one like it.

The front sight is not visible at all in the scope. I can't see it. I also have a 4X Tasco with a 5" eye relief that I also have a quick detach mount for, and I don't see the front sight in it either. Even on 2.8 X with the Simmons, the front sight is not visible - thank goodness! I was afraid it would be when I put a scope on it, but to my surprise, it's not a problem.
