Bushmaster ORC accuracy

I bought a Bushmaster ORC Carbine (optic readi carbine) about 18 months ago and have not shot it .I would like to know what kind of accuracy I can expect with this gun and a 3X9 scope. It does not have a floating hand guard and comes equiped with a 16" (1 in 9 twist)barrel.

So many variables that can affect it you are asking the impossible. If it was mine I would expect 1-1.5" groups at 100 with a good scope.

humm... i hardy ever scope mine.. just use irons most of the time.
mines a bushy m4...bone stock flattop.
but once i did putt a scope on, a luepold 3x9...
with 62 grain prvi partizan ammo,
was getting under one inch.
not bad.

I have had an ORC for a couple years now. The first thing I did was to have a free float handguard installed and dropped in a Chip McCormick trigger before I even shot it. I didn't like the way the fat original handguard felt and wanted a trigger that was less than 10lbs.
Accuracy was tested using a Sightron Big Sky 3X12X42 scope and my handloads. Accuracy averaged an inch or less with just about all loads tested using 50gr - 65gr bullets. I can't do that well now because I swapped the scope out with a Weaver V3 1X3 and I can't see the target as good.
It's an accurate lightweight rifle and has always run flawlessly for me.

My Bushmaster ORC is wearing an ACOG TA-11. At 3.5X with the amber chevron and drop scale, it's not a precision sniper rifle but more than good enough for a coyote calling rifle in the woods or bait on a small frozen pond.

On a nice day I can hit my 300 yards gong 12"x16", 10 for 10.
There have been a few times I wished I had a lot more magnification but most of the time it's coyote busting fun.
BTW I use Hornady TAP 60gr Urban- Red Box not the self defence load.

I shoot off of a bipod and have not been able to get very good groups. I think a lot of it has to do with the stock trigger pull, which is absolutely horrible. With that being said off of the bench I can still get 1 inch groups at 100 yards. I have a Nikon Prostaff 3x9 on mine.

I have the ORC. I purchased the thing during the Obama post-election mania to have another AR in my safe. I already had the Predator and Varminter. My favorite now is the ORC.

The trigger leaves a little to be desired and I will eventually get around to swapping it out. Still reading the reviews but I may go with the RRA two stage.

I put the EOTech 512 on the gun and, with glasses and a rest, I can shoot about 2" to 2.5". Not bad for zero magnification. The EOTech center red dot cover's 2" at 100 yards so I am pretty pleased. Free standing I can regularly hit the 12" gong at 150 yards. For me that is more than acceptable.

I purchased a Viridian green laser w/light (X5L) and will mount it on the forearm Picatinny. A little overkill sure, but it ought to look and work pretty slick. If the Viridian does not pan out there, it will go on the XDM .40.

I think putting a scope, with the added weight, takes away for the ORC concept. Stay light.

Ramjet- Jerry Micureck (spelling) said it best - shooting is 35% point of aim and 65% trigger control. Ive shot rifle all my life = 40 + Yr.s and handgun for 5 - I have found that after trying competitive, that I am really good at Handgun = shooting expert-really close to master with bullseye. My point is TRIGGER is EVERYTHING no matter what your trying to do. You wanna make your Bushy better = get a RRA 2 stage trigger with NO creep and 2 to 3 lb.s of pull and practice with some good 55gr.n ammo Hornady/privi/Fed.silver- tip ect. but start with IMI/American Eagle ect. cuase its relatively cheap in bulk and shots really well.

Well hopefully since he posted this in 2009,,,and had his rifle for 18 months prior to that without shooting it,,what the????????...and this is 2012...hopefully he knows how well it shoots by NOW.

I have one too. I shoot Lake city 109's, 55gr. It holds under 1.25 inches in five shot groups, 3/4 groups / cold bore.

I put a JARD trigger in it, 2.5 pull. I mounted a Leupold AR 3X9 Mil-dot scope.

I installed a CCA cheek piece and a rubber butt pad. Changed the the grip to a soft UTG grip. Added a single point sling with adapter on the tube.

$800 plus $250 for extras and $400 for scope and rings.

Go shoot it, they are a lot of fun. I shoot a few ground hogs down buy the railroad tracks every year.
