Bushmaster Varminter Owners..............

........how do like it? And how does it perform compared to a Remington R15 VTR? Looking at both so help me make up my mind. Uses will be bench, prairie dog and coyote and I wouldn't mind the weight or length of either for carry. I hunt open land.

Thanks for all input,
Bill

Both guns are made from the same parts, just different names. I have a Bushmaster 20in Varmint that came from Maine. It is a great rifle. If I was to buy new now it would be Rock River.

Bought the 24" Varminter used in 2004. Even after all the yote rigs I have bought since then, it's still my go to gun. I haven't shot an R-15 but I believe the only difference is the trigger. Never gave me a reason to cuss her. My grand kids will be shooting mine someday!

It wore an NC star 6x24x50(all the $$ i had left at the gunshow that day) until 3 years ago and i upgraded to a Nikon monarch 5-20-44.

BFH,
Mine wears a 3x12 Nikon Monarch. Shoots factory Black Hills 40 grain Vmax between .60-.70 of an inch all the time. I hand lapped the crown with a lapping tool to remove a nick and its been beautiful ever since. I've never handloaded for it. I seldom miss with this one. I love it.

Had a bushmaster targeter/vamiter when they first came out. Bought it new around 2000-01. The gun was very accurate. I could cover up a 5 shot group with a dime with my reloads at a 100 yards. The cons...it failed to feed and fire all the time. In below zero weather the action wouldn't cycle proplerly. It felt loose and rattled. Don't mean to start a fight with you bushy lovers, but maybe I bought a dud. Needless to say I got got rid of it years ago. I just picked up POF being its piston operated and has the NP3 coating. We will see if it's more reliable when my scope mount comes next week.

No offense that's why he's asking, I have 4 different name AR's in 3 different calibers. I've shot pic 55 gr, Hornady 55-53 v max and my 50 gr. Nosler reloads with .75 or better. I've made shots that shocked my dad n buddies! Seriously thinking of another, just not sure if the new ones will shoot the same.

Use to love mine. 9 twist sure loved the Winchester white box 45 jhp. Also had a predator, 20" barrel and 8 twist I thought was a better fit for me. I kept the trigger from my varminter, it now resides in the lower on my 6 dti.

Hi, the first AR I bought was a Bushmaster Carbon 15 (here come the haters!). Next a Varminter. I love both rifles. Have never had ANY problems with either. The carbon 15 has at least 2500 rounds fired through it and still works fantastic. The Varminter is more accurate but a little heavier. I used both these rifles extensively until sometime around summer of 2011? They still get used, however I have since purchased a DPMS Sweet 16. This gun is the most accurate AR I've ever shot. It's a little heavier than the other 2, but I don't mind. The Carbon 15 is now my grandson's and the Varminter hunts with whoever my partner is. All in all, don't let the Bushmaster haters influence you, I don't believe most of them have ever owned one. I consider ALL my ARs to be excellent rifles. Buy whichever gun YOU want. When it comes to advice on guns, I haven't seen much on here except boosting of their favorite brands. Fact is, I have yet to find a gun I can't shoot well. I don't think coyotes care if they are shot with a "popular" brand or an outcast (Carbon 15). Have fun.

The Varminter I had loved the white box 45 grainers also. Couldn't believe the accuracy I got out of those.
