Bushmaster Varminter

Well the traditionalist in me finally gave in and joined the black rifle ranks. I am the proud owner of a Bushmaster Varminter in the 24 inch 1 in 9 twist 5.56/.223 caliber. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Any and all helpful tips and advise are greatly appreciated and what other owners of this model have to say about theirs. Thanks!

Nice choice. I got mine about 3 years ago and I love how
accurate it is even though I only shoot factory ammo through
it. I can't reload as fast as I can pour it through the gun,
plus I'd rather concentrate on reloading for my other guns.I
wish I had bought a progressive reloading press had I known
how much this thing would be used. The only thing is my NEXT
AR will have a shorter barrel. See how they get you.

No complaints with mine. Outrageously accurate and very reliable. I've shot bunches of prairie dogs with it and wish I had put a higher power scope on it. I kind of run out of glass beyond 400 yards but am pretty sure the rifle would still put the bullet where the crosshairs are. I think you'll be a happy camper.

Gun porn....

Jimanez,
Great gun porn, are those the armalite ring/base setup and if so how much and where can I get one? I know more people have this particular model but would be interested to hear about the predator model as well. Any good load info.... is also appreciated. Thanks!

Fireball congrats! I bought my Varminter about two years ago and love it! Favorite load for mine is LC brass, benchmark, win primers, and 55 hornady v-max bullets!

A true tackdriver! Have fun!!!

I'm not slamming bushmaster or any of its products, but why would someone "overpay" on a new bushmaster when dtech can custom build one to your specifications. The price is still pretty much in the same ballpark. Nice rifle nice kill.

I have had the varminter for about 3 years or better now. Absolutely love the gun. I am only shooting factory loads as well and love it. I am shooting 55 grain remington power lock factory ammo and I am shooting 55 grain hornady v-max's through it. Tack driver. I have a 6.5-20x42 Nikon Monarch on it and it has some range. Love it!

Yes, that's an Armalite mount. They are about $90 and are available in plenty of places. MidwayUSA and the like sell them. I got mine locally but google it up and you'll find plenty of options.

Yooper, what makes you think anybody "overpaid", eh? Actually I had a surplus of cash that I needed to get rid of and I really like the snake logo. BTW, that rifle comes with full length fluting, an adjustable NM 2 stage trigger, and a Hogue grip. There's a gently used one in the classifieds now for $850. Overpay?? Whatever. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I love my Bushy predator. I paid 900.00 NIB. That rifle is as custom as they come and I wouldn't do it any other way if I had the chance. Bushmaster makes quality rifles that shoot fantastic out of the box /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Nice rifle... work up some hand loads for her and really watch what she's capable of /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I bought a Bushmaster Predator 2 years ago and have no complaints. It will out shoot most of the bolt guns that set next to it in the safe. It is scary accurate and a pleasure to shoot. No more expensive than any other AR.

850 for a used rifle? Over 1000 for a snake logo eh! Sounds like a deal to me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif.

I just wanted to remind everyone i started my thoughts with this statement. All Im trying to say is if im paying close to 1000 I am going to have one person contact and build my rifle. I dont have money growing off trees like the rest of you so I get finicky when it comes to that kind of money. I would prefer not to have a factory rifle. When I was researching to purchase my AR some people had bad experiences with bushmasters, some loved them. I wanted something that had a top notch rep. without and any negatives associated with them. Thats why I prefer not to buy a bushmaster. Hey, if you guys love em go for it. That picture with the fox and the bushy is pretty, but I prefer to go another direction.

I got my Varminter about 18 months ago, and no complaints whatsoever. When I first got it I had problems wtih it feeding my reloads, but I wasn't knocking my shoulders back, reset the dies and no problems since. I just got back from two days of prairie dog hunting in southeast Colorado in very windy and dusty conditions, shot over 1300 rounds through it, and never had one problem, and I didn't even oil it once. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

So tell me Yoop, what exactly did you get from Mike, and what did it cost you? The reason I ask that is I've put together a few ARs now and if you equip them the same, the price difference is pretty inconsequencial. If you've figured out a way to get a "same quality" rifle cheaper I'd love to hear it.

You know his prices. Go to the website. Did you read my next post? At around $1000 you can get the same rifle but with a custom a build. Thats all im saying.

Well, sometimes it comes down to, "I want it right now" and Mike can't deliver "right now". Mike does a great job proven by many owners of his products, but still, it could be several months worth of waiting to get that custom build.

For me, it doesn't pay to have a custom rifle built up, I'll buy the barrel and bolt, then put it together myself rather than wait for the custom build. Usually it's the barrel you are waiting the longest on anyhow. But I would prefer the barrel be sent out right after the work is done so I can get moving on it instead of waiting three more weeks in line with all the others that are waiting.

Especially for the new AR owner, the urge may hit them while they are wandering around in Cabela's or their favorite gun store, gee I like it, I'll take it kind of thing.
