BushMaster XM15-E2S or Stag 15 ARMS?

Visited my local gunshop today, and saw he had quite a few AR's for sale. He had a Stag 15 with ARMS, an Olympic Arm's, and a few Bushy's. I opted to purchase a lightly used Bushy XM15 E2S. It was on consignment from one of the PT employee's there, who used to shoot in competitions with it. It "supposedly" has a custom SS match grade bull barrel on it, with a 1 in 9 twist. He claims to have paid $350.00 for the barrel, and everyone I know in the shop, claims the rifle is a super accurate one. It also has a "worked" stock trigger on it.

After some thought, and $1,069 later, ($995.00 before tax) I'm wondering if maybe I should have bought the Stag 15 instead. It was a bit cheaper, was brand new, and seemed like it would be easier to mount a red dot or Holo sight to it. I'm not very versed with AR's, so I have no clue which is the better rifle. I cannot legally hunt with it in Pennsylvania, but I knew they might try to impose another assault weapon ban, so I figured I'd get one now. Any thoughts on either rifle, or any pro's or con's you guys can fill me in on? Thanks a bunch!
 
Stag is the hot item right now, they just started selling their own brand (Stag) a couple of years ago, but the parent company, Continental Machine and Tool, has been around a long time, Stag makes the ARs for S&W, and their parent company, CMT does the machining for a lot of big companies AR receivers, most noticeably Rock River Arms.

One of the big reasons Stag got started was the lack of a left handed AR, and that was their initial product, but that brand has taken off and is a hot seller now, a very well respected brand.
 
I see...I had heard good things about them as well. Seems you are quite versed in the Stag Arms. PhillyBowhunter bought the Stag 15, as he had come in the store as I was about to leave, looking for an AR himself...go figure!
After looking on the Bushmaster site, it does indeed appear the barrel on my new purchase XM15, is a custom. It's WAY WAY thicker than anything BM shows on they're site. I'm talking serious bull barrel here. It makes it a bit hefty, but nothing compared to some of the heavy varmint rifles I have lugged over the years.

I guess my only regret was not holding out for an A3, for ease of mounting an EOtech sight, and not getting a scoping skelton stock. No big deal, I guess...I will just buy an adapter rail to mount in my carry handle, and buy a different stock from BM. Thanks!
 
Why not buy just a flat top upper and remount your barrel and set-up on it. Uppers are about $100 and you will achive what you want without needing a cheek piece to raise you head to the scope.

Additionally you will need a barrel wrench some punches and an action block to mount the upper while swapping the barrel.

It's actually quite easy and there are tons of visual aids on the net to walk you through it.
 
Hey Bradfordcohunter,You will be very happy with the xm15-e2s.I bought one a week ago and am very happy with it.I went to the gun show today and bought a rocker river match 2 stage trigger for it.I put it in this evening and now it is really smooth.
