I see the bushnell 800 yard range finder is 8 power and the 1000 yard range finder is 6 power. Is 6 power enought for the 1000 yard rangefinder?

I have BUSHNELL 400 yarder I use for rifle and bow and it works great at ranging shiney opbjects out to 400.
The deer and elk only show ranging out to 300 though and its only 2X.
If your serious about shooting longer than 600 yards then get the 800 or 1000 but make sure the magnification power is at least 8X.
Good luck.

I have a YP1000, no complaints so far. I've used it quite a bit, owned it for more than two years...

It'll range trees and brush out to just under 800 yards. To get a 1000 yard reading, you have to hit the side of a building, car, etc.

This said, I agree with Gary Paugh. If you have the cash to spring for the Leica, that's probably the best unit around these days. It's not that much more expensive than the Bushy, and the Leica glass is, well, Leica glass... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yep leica is the way to go, I had a bushnel 600, couldn't range a chuck beyond 200 yds or a deer much past three, lost the bushnell and bought a leica 1200, can range chucks beyond 600 and deer past 900. Theres a reason some stuff cost more than others

Hustler.....I have an 800 Bushnell and used it to hunt elk in Wyoming with, however keeping the batteries (small flashlight AA's) up is a NO CAN DO JOB OK. You must carry extra batteries with you under your clothing as well as the range finder too. They run down very fast in cold weather! The Leica has a smaller window for more exact range finding, better than the Bushnell 800 or 1000 model.

The cold weather really puts a damper on the Bushnells ability to get the job done. Sometimes the "MODE" gets screwed up and it takes time to reset....again the cold weather and time will effect it's job for you.

I would by ALL means forget about the Bushnell in all honesty and purchase the Leica. I am giving mine to my son and I have purchased the Leica (it has a different battery system)for the next hunt.

I got the old style bushnell 800, i have owned it for 5 years or better, It ranges very well out to 600yrds even in bright light, i have ranged 1000 yrds under ideal conditions. This unit is bigger than the new models, but still fits in my pack easily. My only complaint, the glass lacks the brighness to pick up targets in low light! thats the only problem i have ever had out of the unit.
After looking thru my friends new model bushnell 400, it apears this problem has gotten worse instead of better! so i would buy the leica if i was going to get a new one.

I have the Bushnell YP Scout. it's really small and fits in my coat pocket. I have had no complaints with this unit other than when I first got it. It used batteries up pretty indiscriminately. I sent it back to Bushnell with a letter complaining about the battery usage, and about three weeks later, they sent me a brand new unit. That was a year and a half ago and I've changed the batteries in it once since then.

This unit only ranges out to 800 yards. I have range deer out to 500 yards on a good day. It is hard to keep it steady enough to range objects that are out past 200 yards due to its small size.

I am happy with this range finder and have no plans to replace it in the near future.

I had a Bushnell 400 and sold it to buy a Leica 900. One of the best moves I ever made. The Leica is far better than the bushnell.
