At those prices, you could add just alittle more and buy Zeiss /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Furhunter,,,,,,,,,Would you please stop telling everyone what a good value the Ziess scopes are.
For a long time Sightron scopes were overlooked and affordable. Then people started realizing it and buying them. Last year Sightron raised their prices about a $100.
Once the word gets out the same thing is bound to happen to Zeiss. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have Lupolds and Sightrons and like them both. Then I broke down and tried a Conquest since I have some Ziess Bino's that are unbelievable.
I assure you my next scope purchace will be another Zeiss.
Thry're a little heavy, but most "good" glass is.

A wise man once said "Good glass doesn't Cost anything, or Weigh anything".

I personally think that, while Zeiss scopes have good glass they are the ugliest scope I've laid eyes on. Almost as bad as the cheap BSA's.. Way to Euro looking and bulky. I'm one who thinks a Tikka T3 is a fine piece of art also. So i'm not offended by Euro looks. Out of the HUNDREDS of scopes I've sold at my part-time job I've sold MAYBE 5 Zeiss scopes.. 2 or 3 of which were on clearance.

Something which needs to be considered...

The more lenses you put into the tube, the more potential for zero holding problems you will have in the future.

The simpler the scope is, the more reliable it will be.

The overwhelming majority of people use about DOUBLE the amount of magnification they actually need to make accurate shots. Often times, too much magnification will cause a missed opportunity, by either causing you problems in finding the critter in the high mag scope's reduced field of view, or by causing you to have trouble settling down steady on the target (the higher mag scopes magnify the often insignificant twitching you do, especially in unconventional field positions)...

...or when you "quickly" dial the scope to higher power after you find the animal in the crosshairs at a lower power, only to find that you've either fumbled and lost the sight picture, or you've given your target the opportunity to duck and/or run.

A good 3 to 9 variable will accomplish pretty much anything a man would have any real need of doing with a rifle. If you want to varmint or target shoot, go with a variable with a higher top end. Target and varmint rifles don't need low magnification settings.

If you think about it, a rifle which can truly use 2.5X on one end, and 16X on the other is probably non-existent. You'll either be trying to swing a 14 pound varmint rifle to make snap 20 yard shots on the low end, or you'll be trying for a hail mary at 600 yards with your soda straw barreled 2 MOA rifle on the high end.

I doubt these scopes will catch on... at least not with folks who know the capabilities and design limits of their rifles.

Dan

I can't find any portion of your ramblings that I can agree with! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Good point! I have two of the 4200 scopes but I sure would rather have me a Conquest, no doubt.

You should try looking through one of those Ziess's instead of at it. Thats what counts.

Personally, the only gun I've seen uglier than a T-3 is the Tika Varminter with all of the crap glued on the stock.
Now that my friend is fugly. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Let me know when some more of the Zeiss go on clearance.
I'll buy one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

We're in the same boat then! You keep your ugly Zeiss and I'll keep my ugly T3's. We'll see who shoots better in the end /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My local SW has a Conquest 6.5x20 with Z-Plex and target turrets, in silver right now for 699.00

Same scope in midway was like 900 to 950.

Zeiss has a promo right now on some bino's, and the Conquest 3x9 scope is 399.00 right now, dont know if its a mail in rebate thing or not /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

My gun dealer just ordered my Conquest 6.5X20 Same as the above on but in black for 734.00

So you guys are telling me I need a T3 with a Zeiss on it huh /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It's all in the execution, and I have not seen these new scopes in person or used one to see how well they have been done. I suspect they are probably too bulky and heavy to suit my tastes for use on my non-existent rifles. But the concept of such a wide magnification range, in and of itself, I find very attractive and potentially quite useful.

You guys ought to check this place out for good scope prices + free shipping....

Like most places on the net you need to shop around. I got my Elite Spotting scope from these guys, I couldnt get it cheaper anywhere else. But my price on my new Conquest is still about 150 less than optics planet.

Elite 6500's are available on ebay and The Optic Zone has one one the way to me because I placed the first "pre-order".

I've owned top of the line Zeiss and Swarovski scopes and think they're grossly overpriced for what you get.

I'm impressed with the 4200 glass and the guys at Bushnell assure me that the 6500's will be as good or better.

$bob$

If I remember right, the smallest of the 6500s weighs 18 oz. Thats about 4-6 oz more than what I have on my carry rifles. Yep, I can see it now, pay big bucks for a lightweight rifle, big bucks for a McMillan Edge stock to keep it light, and then put a big bucks heavy scope on it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
