Bushnell Legend vs Simmons Aetec....????

I'm looking for a new scope for my .22-250. I use it for hunting Coyotes mainly but do some other hunting with it aswell. I dont have a pile of cash right now (divorce ) so I've narrowed it down to a couple possible choices. Either the Bushnell Legend 5-15x40 AO or the Simmons Aetec 4.5-14x44 SF. No one local handles the Simmons so I've never had a chance to hand that model but did own a 44MAG a bunch of years ago that did me well. I like the specs on the Aetec as far as eye relief, field of view and the larger odjective for light gathering, aswell as the idea of side focus. My huting partner has the Bushnell Legend, its been very good to him over the last couple years. I like how clear and bright it is and also like the the Mil-dot reticle. I know Simmons makes some lower end total crap scopes but so does Bushnell. Any first had experience with either of these scopes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tim

haven't had either but i would go with the bushnell. had a bunch of bushnells including a 3200 5-15X50(which i REALLY like)and have owned a few simmons scopes. the bushnells seem like they are a better scope to me, but they are probably tit for tat and either will do you fine.

I would go with the Bushnell also, have one on my 10/22 and like it but you may want to check out the Nikon Prostaff it is also right in your price range I just bought one and I think it is alot clearer than my Bushnell.

I'd go w/ Bushnell first, based on my experience. I've never owned a Nikon, but they look like really good glass for the $$$. 2bits.

I have 2 of the Aetec's. They do make some very low grade scopes, but the Aetec is there best I have seen so far. Very clear, and bright. Great Field of view, plus the side focus. I haven't compared the Aetec with a Bushnell, but I have with a Buckmaster 6-18 and a 36x Weaver. I prefer the Aetec. I hunt coyotes, and the 4 power is great. Then if needed, the 14 power will reach out there very well. This Simmons Aetec is probably the best scope for the $$$.

You can find them at ebxy for under $185.00 Try one, I am sure you won't be disappointed.

Cheers

Aetec on my Stag 16"

I have owned two of the old model Aetecs. One is a good one, a 2.8x10. I currently have it mounted on a 223 AR. It's the illuminated model. Seems to hold zero well. The other one would not hold zero.

I too have had some Simmons over the years, but am not really very fond of them - except for the Aetec. Of course, as you know, there's good and bad in most all of them. I even had to send a new Leupold back one time that had some problems.

If I were you, go with bushnell. I have one mount on my 10/22, and a few slug guns. They work great for me. I only spent about 80 bucks on those scopes.

Hope this helps

I have had both the only bushnell i would ever buy is the higher end model 3200 and above. The rest are junk as far as im concerend. As for simmons i would not give one of those to some one i hated. Simmons are the cheapest made scopes i have seen. Had one on a 22 ruger and it came apart on the inside. Now if a scope made for a high power cant stand up to a 22 that is pretty sorry. You can buy a nikon prostaff brand new off ebay for 138.00 and nikon is a darn good scope. Have had no problems with nikons at all. If your going to spend your hardearned money buy something that will last. You get what you pay for and optics are a real good example of that. All though they have come a long ways with the cheap off brand name optics but there still along ways from the good ones.

Hi Tim,

Hey, I have three of the Legend Series scopes. I love the heck out of the. I think they are great optics. Mine are mounted on 2 .223's and a .243. I've learned to kind of use mine for a range guesstimater. Works pretty good if you are not rushed for a shot. You can't beat them for the money.
The most I paid for one was 280 out the door from a mom and pop store. I got good service and didn't min the extra 80$ for the honesty. I'd buy another in a heart beat.
