Anyone use the Firefly recticle for night hunting. How do you like it? Pro's and cons? How long does it glow after you give it the flashlight treatment?

Also does it just look like a regular duplex in the day?

Thanks, Sleddogg

Sleddog,

Here are some pros and cons for the firefly.

Pros: It really works. Shine a flashlight into the scope for about a minute and the reticle will glow for about 30 minutes.

Cons: The middle of the reticle does not glow, only the heavier outer post.

The reticle is bushnells 3-2-1 low light reticle, so there are actually 2 different thickness post with the fine crosshair in the middle of the reticle. Once the charge has faded, the reticle is a normal black.

I have one on my rifle and the main purpose is for low light conditions and you can not pick up the center in a no light condition. I bought mine for that early morning in the dark timber. I missed an oportunity for a bull elk on opening morning because I could not find my cross hairs even though I could see the outline of the elk.

I hope to use it for the last light condition if I get a chance to go leopard hunting in September.

I have looked at my scope first thing in the morning and there was still a faint glow of the cross hairs. Like with the glowing hands of a watch when you first shine a light on it the hands would be bright and fade over time. The good new is the darker it gets out side the wider your pupils get allowing more light to enter and the cross hairs show up nicely.

the pros outway the cons if its a night scope you are looking for. the cross hairs are thick and for example I have a 1.5 x4.5 and at 4.5 power the center cross hairs where they cross, the thinest part covers up a square inch at 100 yds making it hard to shoot sub moa groups. My partners 9 power covers up 1/2 inch at 100 yrds. the very center does not glow however its easy enough to learn where to point with this retical. the charge will out last any set up you do and its easy to charge between stands. I would recommend it highly for a calling rifle. but if you want it to be a bench scope that its not.
