Busnell Elite vs Nikon Buckmaster vs Leopold VXI

hey MO, i have the same Nikon on my 22-250 that you have on your rifle. it is a great scope. like you said though, the power seting adjustment is very stiff. the scope holds its zero and the clicks are the truth at 100 yards when i make adjustments. i also have leupold scopes. the most exspensive being my leuopold tactical 4.5X14. the nikon is just as clear and just as reliable and about $100.00 less.

earpopper ,all I can say (with out being able to go in to detale) is that my duty .223 700 rem police was shiped the same way our acuracy International .308 and barret .50 BMG with a 6-24
elite B/L and .........well at 2000meters at 24x
thay print a nice group on a.........pie plate sized target......lol,and that is through the glare of a pasenger class jet window. That is all I can tell ya about what the police and Swat and also E.R.T teams think of them.

On a diferent note I was out today with my own.223
700 police & B/L 6-24 and took 2 nice shots in my worst position(off hand ) one at a crow,89m and one at a low profile G-HOG @198m both hit with 55gr v-max's and a stiff carge of Blc-2 (hornady t.a.p. urban twin) both were put into the here after instantly, b.t.w the hog was shot at 24x
and was as clear as a bell /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well men ... I guess my question now is ... Is the current Bushnell Elite actually the same scope as the old Baucsh and Laumb Elite?
does anyone know this for sure? If so let me know.

Thanks again!

To answer your question, the Bushnell Elite IS the Bausch & Lomb Elite. All they did is start printing another name on them after the buyout. They are excellent scopes. The Elite 3000/3200's have always been better than the Leupold V-II's. That is why Leupold dropped the old V-II and came up with a new one with decent coatings so they could catch back up with the rest of the industry.

Good Hunting,

Bob C.

Groundhog at 198m from the off hand position? Wow, you da man!

I was out shooting today and I couldn't even hit an old flywheel (appx 14" dia.) at 100 yds from the off hand position with my H&R .223. It was shooting .750" - 1.25" groups from the bench. After that, I finally made the decision to send the old handi-rifle in for a sorely needed trigger job. A seven pound pull makes it impossible to hold on target.

IMO, The Nikon Monarch (not Buckmasters) is far better than the Bushnell Elite and optically superior to a Leupold VarX III (and far superior to a VarX I). However, I don't think they are as rugged as the Leupold.

Another thing not mentioned is eye position. Leupold's are generally more forgiving than the others mentioned, including the Monarch.

The only scope I've ever had fail was an Elite. Even though it has a "lifetime" warranty. Bushnell sent be a bill for it's repair with zero explanation. n my opinion the scope is still not repaired, or maybe the scope is within specs and just not up to my standards. It will soon be gone and replaced with a Monarch 4-12, and I won't buy another Elite.

I also own the Nikon Monarch 6.5 x 20. The optics are good. (most other Nikon optics I've had were dissapointing over time) The one thing that I don't like is that the target turrets are not an accurate 1/8" clicks. Both mine and my dad's Nikons were between 1/8" and 1/4" adjustments. For example 8" was tested to be actually 11.1". Other than that it's a good scope. If I was to do it over again I'd buy a Leupold. I've also owned Busnells and have found them to be a good scope so you don't always get a better product just because it cost more. My next purchase is going to be a 4.5x16 Weaver like I have on my 260 rem.

I have had Leopold scopes for longer than I care to remember, both the Vari X11 & Vari X 111. I bought a couple of the VX11's on sale and wasn't impressed with the low light clarity. I have a 3.5X10 on a 338 that I need to send back because you just about need a pair of pliers to adjust the power setting.

Last year i bought a lightweight 7mm-08 as I got a gift certificate through work for Cabellas. As this wasn't going to be a primary rifle I didn't want to fork out the $475 for a Leopold and bought a B&L Elite 2.5x10. What a GREAT scope! It is on a par with the Leopold for clarity, the elevation and windage adjustments are accurate. At dusk I could still see the crosshairs and the deer. I have since bought three more Elite scopes and can't see spending the additional money on a Leopold.
