Hello all, getting back into trapping and running 2 dozen misc. borrowed traps. Will be targeting Coyotes and Bobcats in eastern Oregon and want to add a dozen or two of my own traps to my line. I want to stick with coilspring traps, have fairly limited funds. Which traps and what size would you choose in my situation? I don't have a welder but could probably get access to one. What would your choices be in my situation?

Here in Oregon any trap #3 or larger has to have at least 3/16ths of offset, does that change your recommendation?

evidently, every trapper has his personal preference in trap and trap design....I would think if you're going after fur to sell that the offset would not damage the fur as much as the regular jaw. For me, in Ga. I am only after coyote management, don't care about the fur...but may look into round rod lamination since I have a welder, to minimize the damage to a non target animal....and 10-4 on the shock spring T20..

on the sense you have limited funds i would stick with dukes #3s as well as the number 4s you can adjust them easly (pan tension smooth the inside jaws etc) i like the #3 montana modified persoanly as well as the old montgomerys but one fact remains it aint the trap its the trapper. many coyotes have bene killed with the 3ns #3 vic longsprings dukes bridgers sls kbs mbs and mjs. a good place to look is on minnesota traplines website they offer great deals
good luck

the fur is cut higher on the leg when skinning out to sell ... so the area of fur where the trap was is left on the body

bought my first dozen #3 bridger.. they were the modified 4 coiled ones.... but i've never owned a trap that strong and fast i love them so far.. my old duke #4's are goin to be moved to the beaver line
