I am looking for help in determining safe load data for a C Sharps 1875. C Sharps Arms only publishes black powder data and I am looking specifically for IMR or H 4198 (I have both). I have loaded a few rounds using 38 grains IMR 4198 with a velocity of about 1700 fps. Using Lyman 49th that would put the CUP in the order of 20-25K CUP. I am not looking to hotrod the round, just looking for safe working pressures to follow. Any first hand knowledge would be muchly appreciated.

The upper end of “trapdoor” loads is where I would start. I have my Marlin ‘95 running 420’s around 1450fps. Which makes them fairly pleasant to shoot.

I had a Pedersouli ‘74 , but only used black powder in it.

Hard cast bullets need to really fit the barrel. They won’t slug up to size as well as softer bullets do.

Castboolits has quite a bit of info also.
