Caldwell Lead Sled...

Thinkin Im goin to invest in a good shooting rest and seems like the lead sled is on the top of the list for alot of shooters. Goin to be buyin from Midway and noticed theres a few different models. I was goin to go with the Lead Sled Plus but figured Id ask how many of you guys have this particualr one and would you reccommend it?

Only thing that I was kinda worried bout with the lead sled is I've heard a few people say that it changes your POI. Does anyone if there is any truth to this?

I bought one a month ago but havent used it i realy dont care for it after i put it together it changes your eye relief and is awkward to look threw a gun when its in it. I bought some front and rear bags and like them alot but wish i would of got one of the adjustable front rest with a rear bag.

Have not personally used it. A friend of mine has one, some other friends have sighted of it and they like it. May not be as particular as most of us though.

I have one of the original ones and for developing loads, where you are attempting to remove the 'human factor' from the shooting equation, it's great...

I tie the sled to the bench and the rifle to the sled, just tight enough to stabilize the rifle, where all I have to do is trip the trigger...Note the strap around the buttstock..

For general shooting with non-magnum calibers, it is uncomfortable to get a really good position and then I prefer a standard rest and rear bag..

I just bought the DFT model and do the same as Oldturtle.. Works great for load development and is the only reason I bought one... Like OT says takes the human factor out of it all..

I have a lead sled "solo" I bought a few months back. So far it's been good. I haven't tried weighing it down yet.

Thats all I was planin on usin it for it just testing out different loads so when I get a wide group or something I can go hmm was that shooter error or the bullets??

I have no firsthand knowledge of this but it does sound credible.

The Lead Sled has a chance to damage the action screws and stock. The reason being is that it does not give any recoil. When you fire the round and the recoil can't go any place. It's then transferred to the stock and screws holding everthing together and if used enough you may not see signs early on but eventually you will and if your having problems chasing groups now. What problem will you chase later on when you don't have a clue where to look.

I wanted one a few years ago for the same reason that many others get it, but then I started reading things about it and decided I didn't need those possible problems.

Saw a walnut fancy stock split at the pistol grip, and he carried his rifle home in two pieces because he shot it in a lead sled.

I wondered about the potential to damage a rifle with the failure to give.

I was a little to cheap to invest in one and continue to use a 25lb bag of lead shot between my shoulder and my .300 RUM during sight in sessions to take out the sting. Its also a little awkward but lets me shoot without fear of punishing recoil from the bench. It doesn't beat me to badly from shooting sticks or off hand but 10 rounds off the bench is about like going 5 rounds in the ring.
