Yesterday I went out calling coyotes on a ranch that 8,000 acres burned this last August. I saw a fair amount of coyotes tracks and coyote scat in the dirt roads but I only called in one male coyote.

It was very hard to see anything in the burned areas compared to the areas that hadn't burned. The male coyote that I did call in was very hard to see. I saw movement and thought that it was a squirrel or a rabbit about 150 yards away. When I got it in my scope I could see that it was a coyote moving at a slow trot heading for my X-24 caller.

The male coyote stopped when it was about 20 yards from my caller so it was about 60 yards from me. The coyote didn't even wiggle when it was hit with a Barnes 62 gr Varmint Grenade out of my 6mm CM.

In the above picture, the coyote when I first saw it was to the right of the road in the burned area on that small ridge.

I liked the looks of the results from the Barnes 62 gr Varmint Grenade bullet. I didn't see a entrance or exit hole.

I am glad they got the fire stopped before it got to the higher elevation of the ranch where the oak trees and junipers are.

Another great hunt story and again awesome pics.

I'm glad that 62gr VG is working for you, I think you need to move them fast. I tried them in my 6mm-204 and they left huge exits on broadside shots, they are accurate though. I ended up going with the 55gr NBT LF.

I took the below pictures on top of those big mountains that are in the above burn picture.

The elevation on 3 of the different ranches I hunt on are from 1,000 ft to over 4,000 ft. It is amazing how much the country can change and be different by just driving one or two miles.

With these 62 gr Barnes Varmint Grenade bullets there is no telling what the next coyote may look like. LOL
When I had to go to lead free bullets I was getting more damage done with the 62 gr Varmint Grenades out of my Win 243 than I was getting with Hornady 75 gr V-Max bullets.
