Calling at night in black bear country.

Hey Krusty,
I guess lures could be considered baiting in some states. Lures are meant to attract critters bait is for consumption. Be that as it may, I find a sense of security in Bear country having my sound away from me as well as scent away from me. 15-20 yards is the average at night, 40 to 50 during the day is normal for me.
at that short of a distance you will see eyes. More times than not, once I see a predator I will work him in with a lip squeak anyway.
To me keeping a bears attention until I feel that I am at a safe distance means a lot to me. I would then shut the caller off and he can keep the lure.

Well here is my 2 cents,

i live and call in Pennsylvania and call many many bear in at night and day.

first there has been no bear attacks in the state
that i can remember,
why , they are that smart they no you as danger
not as pray.
i will let them walk right up to me and then stand up or hit them with the light just to show my hunters that they are not stooped critters and they know that i am not a meal.
they really don't stay around long once you put the light on them,
ok, if you surprise each other or for some reason he is a bill to sneak in on you and get close
at some point he will notice you as danger
they don't won’t any part of you.
i don’t know how every one ells works there light but i move my light pretty fast till i see eyes and then i will let my hunter know were and let him get set up and ready so when i move back on the eyes we are set.
so the chances of him sneaking in on you are really none,

now i don't know about bear out west in the big wood that have not encountered a hunter before
i only know about my bear.
think about it, you know we have a million hunters in PA and 98% still have never seen a wild bear ,bear ant dumb.
