Calling Bobcat in Idaho?

I have never called in a bobcat (that I know of) and would love to learn ho to become successful at it. I probably live in a good area but what habitat should I look for? I live around the Boise area and don't think there are too many rocky areas that I can hunt. Any tips on what kind of call to use and where to look for habitat would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How much is an Oregon tag? I have some spots I will share if you want. Not sure of the cat population but good #'s of prey close to you in Boise. About an hour drive. I live on the border and am thinking about heading to ID to bag cats since Utah only allows 6 per year and I missed the draw.

Roger, head up to the Owyhees. Last year My two buddies and I saw a family of five just sitting there looking at us 75 yards away on some rocks. Actually, we busted them by the side of the road and we watched them run to the rocks. They were out of season by a cople of weeks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif. Had they been in season it would have been three easy cats.

I'm in the area too, and have never seen a bobcat in the wild. I go calling most weekends and have spent a lot of time in the Owyhees too. I've heard they are out there and have seen fresh tracks last year in the snow but was never successful. Keep looking because the season for them is getting close.

MXer, Roger and TVernon, how have you done so far this season on the coyotes in Idaho? I've only been out twice -- skunked both times. Of course, my friend and I brought our young sons with us, so we sounded like a herd of elephants everywhere we went. It was still a lot of fun, though.

I've never called in Idaho but a general rule of thumb in OK is, if there are turkeys there, there will be bobcats. The cats around here just love to follow the turkeys around and prey on them. If you can find a place with wild turkeys, call there.

Roger there out there.
I called in one three weeks ago. It was my first Bob Cat that i've ever called in ( that I know of) and I was excited about that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif using hand calls. Mason Jarr and I was calling in coyotes in a canon and had a coyote and bob cat come in at the same time. Mike did get the coyote /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif, cats are not open yet Dec.15 . This week with all the snow on the ground would be a good time to look for Bob Cat tracks.

Sondog 34 did you get your new gun broke in yet?

Gene'o, I'm still waiting for the dang thing to come in! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I'm hoping today (my birthdady) is the lucky day! When I get it, I'm counting on you to take me out so I can learn a few tricks of the trade. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Were going to hit it hard the next two days. Hope to get some good pictures in all this snow. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif GENE'O

I think I kill more Bobcats than Coyotes. The key to Bobcats is Brush piles and High pitched sounds. I killed one today using a Jackrabbit call. FoxPro makes a call called Male Cardnal distress that Bobcats like. But the best for me has been the Johhny Stewart plastic call where you bite the plastic to get high sounds.

songdog - This is my 2nd year calling and I have been seeing more coyotes this year than last and haven't been skunked yet. I also found a new area that's seems to hold a lot of yotes.

Lonnie - Thanks for the tip. I do know that the cats like birds. I found a possible good spot for cats while deer hunting. There is very heavy cover at the bottom of the canyon and there are definately turkeys there too! I was in there last year deer hunting and saw a red fox so they're in there too! What's funny is I have never seen a coyote in the area, only 2 reds. That is probably a good thing.
