As for horn howlers I've made, IMO the best 2 I no longer own...the truly nicest 1 (black w/white "feathery clouds" running thru it) I gave to my dad's vet in trade for horns. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thomas and Tony, you are correct the flame one is one of Brads, he does awesome work, and it sounds as good as it looks!
The Cronk howler is a real beauty! The picture can't really capture it, and do it justice.
A couple weeks ago I had the privilege of goin over to Rich's house and hangin out with him. We got to swap some stories, blow on a few calls, and I checked out his shop.
He had several horns layin on his kitchen table, this one happened to be one of em. He had it most the way finished, but not all the way. I asked him to stick a reed in it, so he cut one out, did some fine tunin on it and let er rip. I was already sold on the looks of the horn, but after he blew it, it had to come home with me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It was a gift from the maker. Travis Lindley. The etchings are just scratches made with a pin. A wipe with a wet finger and they are gone. The horn resides on my wall, hanging around the neck of a coyote rug along with another special call I had made for all those I hunted with up in Canada when Byron was filming Coming To The Call Volume5.

That is old school craftsmanship. That looks like some of the stuff you see carved into powderhorns from the early 1900's. The bell is unbeliveable but what really caught my eye was the tip end. Getting the geometry right to make all those angles must have taken a bit of time and effort. My hat goes off to Mr. Lindley for a wonderful piece of craftsmanship /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif.

Actually, I believe that part was already on the horn when he started. He was using pre-finished powder horns. The top part is all free hand though.
 
Here is my favorite for several reasons. First off, I had the unbelievable oppourtunity to literally look over Tony's shoulder while he built this howler for me. It was an awesome experience. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif I also seen Tony's resourcefullness on this build as well. He was barely started with the scrimshaw when his Dremel died on him. I think there was a bit of an "oh crap" moment there, but he sure didn't show it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif He had to finish the scrimshaw with a full sized drill. Not an easy task at all for such fine work. I was impressed and think it turned out great. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I love the color of this horn. He had a ton of horns to choose from, and I am sure glad I nabbed this one.

You guys have sure posted up some unbelievable howlers here. Very cool.
