If you was to get one, would it be mini dvd or memory card? We might get one for ourselves and don't know which one is better.
All input is appreciatted.

DO NOT buy the mini DVD... You will only get 30 min worth of recording.

If you are talking about a HandyCam type then go for the Hard Drive model or the memory card, just make sure you get either BIG enough to hold a bunch of footage.

The downside to the Hard Drives is that you need the computer to clear it, unless you delete it straight from the camera. The biggest UPSIDE to them is that every time you hit record on/off it creates a .avi type file and when you plug it into the computer you download them just like you would off of your digital still camera. They come off the camera ready to watch and can actually be imported straight into your editing software, if that's what you want to do.

If you go with the cards then make sure you get several of them and make sure they are big in memory.

Now if your talking about a Professional or Prosumer type camera then I would go cards or mini dv tapes.

Thanks Tim. We are looking more into a handicam for filming family type stuff. Maybe a hunt or two, but mostly family stuff.

I would get the SD card type. The HD models are OK, but they tend to not tolerate a lot of vibration. If you're planning on simply "family" use, then either one would probably serve you well. SD cards, even the large ones like 4GB, are getting less expensive every day. And the SD card can be simply removed from the camera and put into the card reader of your computer. If your computer doesn't have a card reader, you can get an external unit cheaply at www.newegg.com

Hey Jason!

I just picked up a 40gb HDD Panasonic camcorder on sale at Best buy for $279! I plan to put this on my crossbow... it has the option of using a SD flashcard as memory and should work fine when I'm hunting.

Like has been said you don't want to shake or drop an HDD(Hard drive)unit as it can cause problems. I will be using SD flashcards as memory while hunting! This camera also has 42x Optical zoom and "OIS"(optical image stabilization) that appears to work great so far.

There are lots of choices out there so read up on the different models. Good Luck!

...I'm smilin' here, as I just thought about that coyote decoy Rhett set out in the yard while we were there visiting! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I sure enjoyed that visit!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I checked at Walmart today, and the only ones I seen were small DVD and the hard drive one. I didn't see any card only ones. I am clueless to this stuff.
Send me a link of yours.

Yep, that was a fun visit. Rhett plays with that thing alot. Now he wants to only shoot and drag real ones.
