Camo dip problem

I had my Tikka T3 camo dipped in prairie ghost when I got it back it wasn't assembled. I pushed the barrel/receiver into the stock and noticed that the camo dip is peeling off where the two parts meet. I also used my finger nail and was able to take a bit off with out much effort. Is something wrong or is this stuff just that fragile. How do I tell if it was clear coated after it got dipped. To top things off they forgot to put the magazine catch back on and it is now M.I.A I haven't talked to the people who did it yet but I just want to see if I am off base before I go off base on the guy.

Shouldn't be that soft. My Rem Predator camo is tuff. I banged mine on the concrete /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif with no scratches.

Should be more durable than that. I think I'd make a call to them & see what they might do to fix it.
Once a finish starts coming off that soon, the problem will probabaly escalate.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have seen the finish on factory new guns my gun was like new it surprised me it wasnt as tough as the new ones but I am not sure what to think

They have a quality control problem. The purpose of camo dipping is to make your piece free from problems. This stuff if done right holds up to muzzle brakes on .50 cal BMG's. As mentioned before, it appears they did not do a good job of cleaning the surface areas to be dipped. Who did this, a local?

I am going to call the company and see whats up. I hate to list their name before I see what may have occurred. I know the power of this forum and the internet. I don't want to sink his business before he has a chance to see if a step was missed in the process. I will keep everyone posted.

Class act! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Good on ya yoteblaster! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I was going to send off my Nova to be dipped, but some of the camo jobs some of the guys have been doing on here has me headed in that direction. I would like to send my AR off to be dipped when I finish it up. I think I want it done in MO Brush /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Well I spoke to the company. The guy who I talked to was great didn't question it at all said to send it back and gave me a shipping return number so they pay the shipping. Exact word "we will make it right we are not a company that does not take care of our customers". They said it takes some time for the clear to harden but he said they would redo it and make the cam o job harder. How they do this I do not know but we will see. I will keep eveyone posted as to the results.

Good show. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

If it turns out nice you'll have to post the name of the company so that we can send some business their way. Not many companies now a days treat their customers that well.

+1

I had a similar issue with the film dip i had done on my new D-Tech, a small sectior about the size of a quarter peeled off under the dust cover/bolt opening area. I spoke to the fellow that dipped it and they mentioned a problem with the primer that is applied prior to dipping. Long story short, they got a bad batch of primer. They also re did my entire rifle just to make sure that their wasnt a problem in the future.
I also was told not to fire it for about a week after the second dipping, to let the clear coat harden properly.
So far no issues.
Good Luck

Let us know how it turns out. I have had 2 of my guns that I duck and goose hunt with dipped and have no trouble at all and they are going on 3 years.

Hmmm, there's a fine line between speedy turn around and keeping it that extra week to let it cure. I know if it were my gun I'd be chomping at the bit to get it back and see it but then I'd have to fight the urge to shoot it! I think for me, I'd rather wait an extra week and have it cured in ideal environment, but I can see why they go ahead and ship em.

peace.
unloaded

I would have been happy to wait if they had told me to. When they sent it back it was sent back the way I sent it in, receiver and stock seperate. They sent it back the same way, so not knowing I put it together. I don't know if waiting to let it cure would have made any difference in this case, it was pretty weak.

Kudos to you, yoteblaster, on how you handled the situation! Seems like you are dealing with an honorable company in an honorable manner.

Looking forward to reading how it turns out...
