Camo rattle-can paint jobs

This is a photo of my .17 Tactical with a rattle can paint job on the H-S Precision stock.

This is the same rifle, but I used white Vet Wrap tape on the scope to cover the stark black of the scope for winter hunting.

Here's a link to an article I wrote a number of years ago for Predator Masters and it is located in the Tech Section:

How to Camo a Rifle Using Rattle Can Paint

There is also a companion article link right at the bottom of the above article on how to camo other items on your rifle.

This is the Rust-olium stuff. I couldnt find more than one color of the Krylon fusion. I used an automotive metal etching primer that was a very convenient flat light green. I am not too impressed with the durability.

Same here. It chips and rubs off pretty easily.

Here is a Marlin 917 .17hmr I painted with Krylon primer, Rustoleum Camo paints, and a Krylon clear coat. I don't know about the durability yet as I have yet to take it out since I just painted it but it doesn't look half bad.

Thanks double. I'm glad I found that Gun camo sponge tutorial at the top of the board. It really helped a lot.

I'm in the process of finishing up this M91/30 stock for a friend who wanted snow camoflauge.

Better once I have my stock pack on it with all the spacers.

The regular scope gave up the ghost in the middle of elk season and that was the easiest and best option at the time. That ultralight 7wsm beat it to death. The scope in that picture came off an AR, so yeah, it's quite a bit higher than normal. Many of my scopes won't even fit scope covers on because there isn't clearance between the barrel and bell.

sure...

For rustoleum...prep well with a degreaser, spray base coat with rustoleum camo, I favor the sand color, then I use artist sponges to introduce the other colors, (usually one darker and one lighter). After the "spongeing" is dry, I underline one of the colors with a testors paint marker, this gives that color a bit of a lift and works very well for outline break-up. I finish it off with a coat of rustoleum matte clear...when it is dry I like to scuff the finish with steel wool just to dull it up even more.

I now pretty much use duracoat but have a few different rifles that the rustoleum has held up extremely well.

Hope this helps.

6.8arp that I put together. I didn't paint the stock because I'm about to swap it out.
