Can Fans: Your Favorite/Quietest Silencer

Do any dealers let you try different cans on your rifle to find the one that pleases you best?

I want one bad, but at $1000+ I dont want to buy one that Im not happy with.

Funny you ask that....the day I went to talk to Barry, he actually threaded my AR for me, and then went to try it out on a new can design he was working on....I got to shoot a .22 Browning buckmark as well as a 10/22 and another AR that belonged to him. He also tried a new 338 Lapua can that he had been working on...it was a day in heaven for me, having never been around cans but had always wanted one....it was a long trio home for me....I still laugh when I think about it.

The photos, fingerprints and such are a bit of BS, but I've got nothing to hide so I'm not worried about it.

The 'red tape' is over exaggerated and usually from those that do not own a suppressor; no offense intended.

The promo that AAC offers ends on the 31st, which is a $200 rebated (pays for the mounting device(s)). And the shop in MT where is recently purchased another suppressor has an in house promo where they will pay for the tax stamp. There are good deals out there to be had, you just need to look around.

I would probably say that's one of the biggest mistakes first time buyers make.
Myself included.
I had plenty of information at my disposal and chose to start with the YHM .30 Phantom QD. Which is very good at it's price point, but what I would still consider a budget, starter suppressor.
I have had great experience with it, but I now know that it's NOT the way to go in the suppressor world.
This is a lifetime purchase.
Not like a rifle that you can just sell or trade off when you want to upgrade.
Not like a scope that you can just take a hit and sell to your buddy when you want to get a better one.

If you budget $800 for a suppressor. Set that money aside and figure out a way to sneak another $2-300 (over the course of a few months if necessary) and get the best can you can find. The can that fills all the features you want most, rather than limiting yourself to a budget. I would even sell a rifle to afford a better suppressor.

You have to realize, this is a LIFE TIME investment. Spread $1200 over 30 years and it's chump change.

That much is for sure.

If you shoot a suppressor....even a less expensive one by itself it will always sound quite impressive. I like to hear them in a side by side comparison. Today I shot two of my titanium .30 caliber suppressors on a 7mm remington mag. They are both quality suppressors but the winner was the SRT. These cans don't get mentioned much but they need to be considered. I will say that if i ever hear a can that sounds better than the SRT...i will buy it. Those of you who shoot a lot of suppressors and own or have compared cans against SRT tell me if there is a better sounding can. I want it.

My favorites are the ones I own. Elite Iron Echo and Delta. Hearing safe, economical, and Montana made.
If I can shoot without hearing protection, that is all I need. They are a bit heavy, but I am a Pipefitter, not an operator operating operationally. 3 or 4 oz does not mean squat to me and my rifles are just as precise with them as they are with out them, although I have noticed a very slight poi shift with them. This is not a problem as they are all clocked so the shift is vertical and easy to adjust for with/without the can.

Those SRT cans are tempting. I think one of theirs may be my next. If even 80% of the claims are true, they would be an amazing suppressor. Suppressors are all "quiet" but there's definately big differences in sound and performance. They are like rifles. Your first one is awesome, then you start thinking about the little changes that would make it better. Pretty soon, with me anyway, you start wanting bigger, better, faster and "grandpa's 30-30" no longer has the allure it once did. They're expensive and a lifetime purchase, so you might as well get the best. It's just hard to find reliable information. That said, I've never heard anyone say they were dissatisfied with an SRT product/service or they had a can that was more quiet. Real world feedback from hunters and shooters trumps playing tag with the db meter anyday in my book. That's what I wanted to learn with this thread. For you guys on the fence, it's soooo worth the paperwork hassle and wait time. For basically the price of one rifle, you change the entire shooting experience. No more ringing ears, you definitely hear your hits (no more wondering if you hit a target or not), and recoil greatly reduced. The only thing I don't like about them is the increased blowback that makes a gas gun dirty. Not that much of an inconvenience though. Keep it coming!
