can you kill a 'yote with a pellet gun?

ACtually, depends on the "pellet" gun.
here's a web site for an air gun hunting site using .308 and 50 caliber air guns.

size DOES matter

I killed one with a Sheridan .20 cal. I was on the way to so shoot some pigeons one day and spotted this coyote next to a dairy barn. I parked the truck on the road where he couldn't see it and ran through the barn. I snuck around the corner and he was munching on a dead calf about 15 yards away. I had that old Sheridan pumped up 8 times and loaded with a Beeman "Crow Magnum" pellet. One shot right under the ear and it dropped stone-dead. That's still my favorite all time kill. I wish I had a picture of it. *qb

I downed one w/ my shotgun in front of the hounds, and finished it off w/ a stick. does that count? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I didnt think so..:)

Hah! I thought I might get a chuckle but this is getting good. Actually I saw the old 22mag vs 17hmr thread and it reminded me of how anal we can all be at times. Who cares...not like the stupid horse is coming back to life. Just keeping things in perspective for me.

yes it is posible the make more airguns than your red ryders, i have 2 hi-power air guns right now

they have 117 cal to 308 cal

check out cobra airguns

or pyramid air

You bet you can kill a coyote with any size pellet gun /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif. The hard part is running fast enough to catch up to them so you can beat them over the head with it. Never tried it myself, but its got to work /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif.

Not only coyotes can be killed with air guns, but deer, hogs and other vermin. Those 50 cal airguns are lobing 260 grain pellets at something like 650fps, that will knock a deer on its [beeep] right now!

I recon you get a lot of synical answers because most folks have never tried it. Me, I have, and in my situation it worked. Would I have rather had the 25-06? Hell yes! I would have settled for a .22 with a CB Cap. But I learned a pretty serious lesson that day about how formidable a 17 grain pellet doing 650fps is. I don't know that I'll ever try it again, and I surely don't advicate "hunting" coyotes with an air rifle, however a shot to the coconut at close range will get'r done.
I guess most of these answers remind me of something my father used to say all the time... "you can't find out if something works by not doing it." *qb

I saw awhile back where a guy killed a Elk with one, if I remember correctly, the pellet was the size of a 9mm and he was using a airgun that required a "scuba tank" to pressurize it. It seemed like it was RWS.

An rws is a very strong nreak barrel pellet gun

and the scuba tank is called a pcp (pre charges pneumatiuc) very expensive but powerful guns

you can get the scuba tank or buy the hand pump to cahge the gun

Sure can in this months predatorxtreme amg. there is a whole article on airgunning in Africa. they take a springbok and a Hyenna I believe. I have yet to read the article, but it is pretty convincing.

Yea You guys should check out cobra airguns.com

airguns are just as expensive as regula guns

anywhere from 100$-1000$

The best airguns cost a lot more than that. Just a regular target airgun was in the $2000 range 15 years ago. Quite easy to spend $4000 today.

I have never heard of a big bore air gun before, gives me an idea of taking care of yotes in town where they have been a problem.
