Can't decide between 223 or 22-250!!

i like the hold on fur to 300 benefit of the 22-250 or even better the 204. i have several 223s but my 204 does more killing than any of my other predator rifles.

There is a typo on the rates of climb and fall on the numbers listed, however i am sure that most of us get what you are saying.

I think that if you want a 22-250 then get one.. I use one, but also shoot open area's and more than 300yrds is often a possiblity.

Given that you said you have a 223, i would suggest that you look at the 53gr Vmax. It just flat out drops Coyotes where they stand, and shoots flater than most 223. Not as flat as a 250, but close enough that at 300 you are still aiming at fur, or just slightly above.

Spend $22 buy a box of the 53s from Hornady, test shoot them to see if you get a decent group and then make a choice. You can use the money you save to buy other things that are on your wish list.

IIRC you were from the delta area... What do you suggest for the op? I'm interested as well because its coming south also.

I have shot many p-dogs with my .223 out to 788 yards and killed coyotes over 400 yard. I have both .223 and a 22-250. I love them both, but cant shoot at p-dogs longer with the .223 because it doesn't heat the barrel. Both my .223 and 22-250 are Savage model 12's 26" stainless bull barrels. You cant go wrong with either.

If I were forced to own only one or the other, I would pick the .223 in a fast twist barrel- probably a Ruger American. Main reasons are economy and variety of components. I have both and plan to keep it that way.

My first coyote gun was, that's right, a Marlin 30-30. Killed em really dead every time. First true predator rifle was a savage 22-250, very deadly but tough on the fur. I now almost exclusively carry my RAR 223 after ruining a bunch of yotes and a couple foxes. I don't shoot over 300 or so nor do most people I talk to so the 223 is tops for me. I shoot my 250 a lot at the range though.

somebody has never shot many coyotes with .223 to say that.

Well I can't attest to coyotes but, I have shot the m4 (5.56) for 18 years now in the military. I shoot regularly out to 600 meters and I can tell you that I can hit a 10 inch target with fairly good consistency. I do not believe for a second that a 223 is not good enough for coyotes beyond 200 yards. I would feel more than comfortable using a 223 on coyotes out to 500 yards without hesitation. With that said though, a 22-250 would for all intents and purposes have more energy at longer distances than a 223.
