Can't decide on standard base or 20 moa

Like the title says, I'm trying to decide on either standard or 20 Moa base for my 22-250. I've only got a fixed 6x40 to put on it right now, so the stand base would def give me enough room. Possibly one day I might get a bigger scope but besides that is there any reason why not to get the standard base?
 
Say your optic has 80moa adjustment, that's 40 up and 40 down from a middle zero, this is where it should be with a 0moa cant base, 100yd zero.

It means you have 40moa of useable adjustment for elevation.

But it also means you have 40 moa not being used at all... Why not use it? It's there regardless

So, it's really up to you, if you'll never shoot far enough for it to matter, then it doesn't matter.

Absolutely correct...and also a waste of money you could put towards ammo, etc. Doubtful you will ever shoot a 22-250 effectively at long enough ranges to need the extra elevation. If you had something like a 260 and were shooting it to 1000 meters plus then you might want an angled base.
 
How far are you going to shoot? And how much adjustment does your scope have?

Not sure what the size of the scope has to do with what base you need. Refer to above questions to figure out if you need an MOA base.

In this case size is everything...scopes with 34mm tubes are not that big to let more light thru as many people believe. While that may be true, the bigger tube the more elevation adjustment. There's a reason you dont see two revolution indicators on 1" tube scopes...they dont have that much adjustment.
 
Whether you think you know what your are talking about or not. ....It still comes down to how far you are going to shoot and how much adjustment your scope has. If you scope has plenty of adjustment to still get a 100 yd/m zero with a 20 MOA base, there probably isn't any reason not to have one. Gives you plenty of room to expand on what "long range" is to you. If you know for a fact that you will never shoot past (pick a number, lets say 400 yards) then don't worry about it.


I would guess that when the original poster mentioned a bigger scope, he meant a higher magnification scope but maybe he did mean a 34mm S&B or Premier or Razor HD. Everyone knows that you can't have plenty of adjustment in a scope without a 34mm tube.
