Just got back from a trip to New Mexico. 20 hrs one way of drive time. Borrowed a buddys GPS for the truck. It was a TomTom. Man these things are handy. So now I will be getting one. Any ideas on what I should get it? Not looking to spend an arm and a leg. Proably around 300 or so. Anybody use one? If so which one? Thanks

Monte, For just hunting the Garmin 60CS is what I use. Bought the 1 gig chip and loaded several topo maps . You can measure distance between stands, make waypoints, and with the maps, most of the roads, including two tracks are there.

I would recommend the Garmin Nuvi 205w. I have 3 of these and they all work great. (my truck, wifes car, and worktruck)
There is a 205 and a 205w the only difference is the W stands for wide screen. The screen is about 1in wider than the 205. Thea are very easy to work and user friendly. They have the touch screen and you can also use them as a portable device(battery operated if you want). Here is the best part. All of my trail cams take a memory card. This memory card is the same size card you use in the GPS to view photos when its not being used for navigation. So now I always have a picture viewer in my truck when I check my cameras. The higher the number on the Garmin GPS the more bells and whistles(260,300,all the way up to the 700s) The 205w has done everything I have needed it to. They are around the 225.00$ mark at the store. You can watch Ebay and get them for around 180.00. Just make sure if you get one off of Ebay it comes with the powercord an dthe window mount. They are also updateable off the internet if you have it a few yrs and want to update it.Good Luck.

They come in great when us country folk make our way into the BIG city...
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'd never made it around San Antonio without it.

Does the Garmin Nuvi 205w come with map of Canada or just the lower 48?

Lower 48 but if you order it from Garmin you can put other stuff on it I think. You may have to get one of the higher # ones to get anything than the lower 48.

I have the NUVI 680. It has blue tooth, mp3, fuel, lodging and everything. As a over the road driver it really came in handy.

That was the Nuvi 750 I was using... way more than I need, but it's nice to know the extras are there if I need them, but if I did it over I'd get a lesser model for what I use it for...

I picked up a Garmin Nuvi 265T last summer for about $250...For a few dollars more than the 205, I have BlueTooth for my cell phone...as well as the "traffic alert" feature and I can download updates from the Garmin website.

It has a day/night feature that changes the screen colors so it's not glaring during after dark driving and then gets brighter during daylight hours, and several voice options (I like the Austrailian female).

I also have a small hand held E-Trex for finding my way around large off road areas (we go Prairie Dogging on a couple of 75,000 acre ranches and lose the entry gates.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif).

I dont have alot of experience with GPS in cars and trucks. But as a pilot who has flown with every type of GPS on the market old ones new ones etc.... Garmin is the most user friendly out there and their customer service is awesome. There are alot of different models of aviation units that Garmin makes and they all operate the same. I would reccomend Garmin over any other brand. The people who dont like them are people who have never used them becuase once they do they will fall in love.

I will tell you a quick story about there CS. I was ferrying a helicopter from Vegas to New york a few years ago. I was in the middle of Kansas and my GPS started giving me fits. When I landed I went in and had a mechanic come and look at it. He couldnt find anything wrong with the wiring. I made a call to Garmin and figured out the unit was bad. I told him I was in a hurry and couldnt wait for a new unit to arrive. I told him I would make do. He called me back and had the shop I was at replace the unit with one of there own and ship the old one back. The mechanic had it installed by the time I was ready to fly out the next morning. Now were talking about a unit that costs 7500$. The original one that went bad was about 5 years old and the warranty had expired. When I got to NY I called him back and told him thanks and how much it helped . They had repaired the old unit and had it shipped within a week. Now thats great customer service /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

DO NOT GET A GARMIN, I have had 2 of them. on the street pilot model the touch screen quit working, so the Nuvi was bought. The nuvi said I was at my destionation and I was 1/4 mile away. Decided to dump the Nuvi and get the old Street pilot fixed. When it was returned it was 1/4 mile off as well and it used to be accurate. Called them on it and they said we do not guarantee accuraccy, WHAT?????? a directional instrument that does not guarantee to get you where you want to go???? MY Iphone 3G is more accurate.

The Garmin Nuvi series definitely get some of the best ratings, and several salespeople I've talked to said they are there best sellers. Cabelas has the Nuvi 255W on sale this month for $199.00 . From my understanding the 255w also has Canada on it. I think it sounds like a good deal, I know I'm thinkin hard about it.

iahntr I would assume you meant the Nuvi 205w for that price. Because the 255w is 250 on sale. Is this a good price on the 205w? anyone?

Unless there's different prices at different Cabelas?? I'm lookin at my add right now, and it has the Nuvi 255W at $199.99 (normally $279.99) and the 205 at $169.99 (normally $189.99) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I went to Cabelas site, I see what you're lookin at.
Go to there site and go to choose a location, then look at current sale flyer. The 255W is in there at $199.99
