Just like anything there can be a bad apple in the bunch. I have used mine all over Texas. I have gone to Mizzou, Colorado, New Mexico, and Kansas with mine. Everytime it has taken me exactly to the spot I needed. Also on my Kansas hunting trip last I was given the coordinates to the stand I was going to hunt. After driving 6 hrs I got there about 4:30 pm. When I pulled into the place I was going to hunt the guys land I was hunting on told me to park by a barn then I could walk in. I took my GPS off my window and walked 300 of 400 yards through a field and some trees and ended up at the base of the stand I was going to hunt, I had never been there before. Check Amazon as they have some good deals on GPS units. I bought my Garmin Nuvi 755W (i think this is the model) for $220 and free shipping.

1st, let me say, we use the TomTom on the ambulance, and yes, they do come in handy, when they work correctly. I've passed the house we were responding to and had it tell me that I still had 5 miles to go. tell it you want to go one hospital in particular, and it tells you to pull into the wal-mart parking lot about 1 mile away. so make sure you keep them updated, to keep the new roads / changes updated.

Also when in rural areas, take what they say with a grain of salt. they don't know that a road may not be plowed or maintained in the winter, At least here in Maine. neither TomTom or Garmin will get you to my house, neither will mapquest.com the road names have been changed 5 years ago and they try to send you onto a discontinued barely dirt road. Also there are a couple of roads that only go thru if you have an ATV, or a 4x4 that you don't care if it gets scratched all to h*ll.

ever wonder how those people get stuck down snow covered roads in the cascades or elsewhere? almost always, it was because they were doing exactly what their GPS was telling them to do, without turning on their brains, to wonder if they should be going a different way.
 
I got a Garmin nuvi750 on a great sale just before Christmas last year. It's always been accurate for me and my wife says it's the best money we ever spent. Extra features like restaurant or gas station finder are nice on trips when you're unfamiliar with the area.
 
I have been using a high end Lowrance for several years and have no complaints, except, you can not see the display until it is at least 60 degrees. Start out on a Winter day and it can take 15 minutes to warm up enough to be easily seen.

Other than the low temp display problem it is great. Big touch screen, 20 gig hard drive, contour info, even shows dry stream beds.

I have been thinking about the Garmin Nuvi 500. It is a Car/Truck model but already has topo maps built into it. You can switch from Roads to topo with a couple clicks. I figured this would save me a lot of time scouting for hunting spots here in AZ. I like to hunt fairly close to water, and figure this should make finding the tanks a little easier.

Has anybody had any experience with this model of Garmin? I have seen them on the net for around $285
 
The Nuvi 750 is on sale at Sam's for $198.00. I bought one a couple of months ago and really like it. It doesn't have the bluetooth or traffic update capabilities but its just what I need.
