how do you like your ultasonic i just picked one up but haven't used it yet.

I like it a lot. I dump cases in the ultrasonic using the Hornady brass cleaner and run it for 15 minutes while I get everything else set up. When the cycle is done I pull my basket and rinse my brass in clean water, drop them all on a towel and roll them a bit, then I put the cases in my RCBS loading block neck side up....I use a hair dryer and blow dry that side, then I put another loading block over the top to allow me to flip them over...then blow dry the primer pocket side.

It sounds time consuming but the drying process takes less than 10 minutes complete so in 25 minutes I can have my brass ready to go. It's way faster than any other cleaning method I've seen so far and it does a top notch job....the brass isn't super shiny but it's extremely clean inside and out.

And how much more work SS is!

I think this is all relative to each persons' cleaning procedure. For me, I didn't notice that much more time being involved from start to finsih and the result is WAY better IMO. If a guy can afford the SS route, it is the only way to go.

Reading up on this, can you use S/S in a conventional tumbler ? It kind of sounds like you need a special unit, or am I reading that incorrectly ?

You need a rotary tumbler and when you're all done you need a good way to recover your SS pins...it's also pretty slow. My $.02
