Hi Guys,

First of all, I'm new to calling coyotes. This is my first year. I have a Cass Creek Predator Call. It has a jack rabbit, cotton tail, coyote howl, pup yips and fawn distress. Question is : What is the best sequence to use this for yotes. I've called in 1 dog and got him. The other three didn't respond. Distance may have been a crucial factor on the last three. 400 plus yards. Do I need a mouth call also. All advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tony

you always need a hand call no matter what e-caller you choose.
cass creek calls are not loud enough except for close range.I have a cass creek call.

RTLOF18918B, Man thats a long name /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Just because those other 3 coyotes appeared to not hear your Cass Creek call. Doesn't mean they didn't "hear it" I bet they did. Sometimes, a coyote is not interested, for whatever reason.

I've used my Cass Creek Nomad, in conjunction with hand calls. Et called in a few. One from a 1/4 mile away in a very stout crosswind.

Do you believe a coyote can hear, a mouse/vole "move or squeek" under thick/deep crusty snow? I do, they have remarkable hearing.

No doubt that coyotes have some amazing hearing, no arguing that point.

But 1/4 mile (400yds) is what I would consider close range and I'm sure Glenn's asessment of Close Range would include this also.

I have a Cass Creek in the drawer and have killed coyotes with it in the past, but I must agree that for wide open terrain with the possibility of calling in a coyote from 3/4 mile to a mile away, it just doesn't come close to making the grade.

You might want to get the remote speaker for the cass creek. It does have an amplifier built in. Their new one should be really loud.

Hey Kirby,
You're right. That is a long name. I am a diesel mechanic and specialize in drive trains. I picked that name because it is easy for me to remember. It is the model number of a Fuller transmission that i deal with quite frequently.

I went calling this morning and didn't have any luck. Yotes were sparse in that area. I knew that going in. Have seen a few in that area before and thought I might get lucky. Not so. Maybe next time. Next time I might pick up 2 or 3. You never know. Going chuckar hunting tomorrow and am taking the predator calls also. It is opening day of bird season and the reports don't look to good so maybe I can get a yote or 2.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all of the responses. I did buy a hand call a couple of days ago. 1 of Mark Zepp's calls. An open reed call. Comes with a dvd. Great dvd. Went out and tried it this morning. No yotes but the call is very easy to use. I think I'm going to have great fun with it. I can't stand sitting around the house in the winter.

Tony,

When I use my CC Nomad. I generally will use a handcall @ the same time. Like in, a coyote yipping/barking/killing as a rabbit is squallling/dying. Also I aim the speaker front, towards the opposing hillside[towards the base or 1/2 way up the other hillside]. So the noise, echo's down the valley.
