Has anyone had any experience with the cass creek predator 2 call. How's the quality, loudness, battery life etc. I'm on a very tight budget and am just starting calling and would like any imput. I have a few hand calls but they only produced one coyote last year and i didn't get the shot. I want something trouble free.

I really like my Johnny Stewart attractor. 35 bucks and it has a sound output port so that I can add a small amp and speaker in the future. It isn't terribly loud but it works as is. I have had really good results with the remote. It says 50 yards but by putting it on the downhill and haning it in a tree I have gotten farther. I put it on a stump next to my new Jack in the box decoy and had a couple of pigeons or doves (not sure they were really moving) go crazy dive bombing on it. I am sure that it is not as good as the high end calls, and it has only 5 sounds but it works pretty good in my opinion. I have played with it quite a bit and my kids left it on once and I am still on the original batteries it came with.

The only thing I have to compare it to is and extreme dimension Mini Phantom hand held electric call. I like the sounds better on the attractor, plus it has a remote. Cost was pretty much the same. I can change sounds in the mini phantom though.

Hope that helped a little

Edit: I should add that the attractor will play the sounds continuously untill you push a different sound or mute button (or shut it off). The mini phantom will shut off every two minutes. I like that it stays on untill I decide to shut it off.

I used a Cass Creek in Soutrh Africa when I did not have much of a budget either, to be honest, its worth what you pay, the sounds are a little distorted on my one unit, I have both models. The Pred 1 is nicer, range behind you and in front is together about 380 yards.

The unit can have a speaker atatched out in front, thing I dont like is having to push the button all the time to reset sound, but it has killed for me. No problems and that woodpecker is nice sounding, my woodpecker runs for a minute before resetting it.

You get what you pay for, if I was you i would rather go get an mp3, radioshack amplifier and cone speaker, it will cost a little more but you then can have better quality, better range and a far better caller. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Try that combo, thats a combo I use often. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You will get what you pay for. If you have predators in your area, it will probably call them.

I posted this question back in the beginning of the year, and was told "you might as well get a Foxpro, you'll just end up with one anyway". Well, I bought the Foxpro FX3, and love it. Cost is a lot more than the unit you described, but with a seven year warranty, excellent customer support, and excellent sounds and features, it can't be beat.

Go foxpro...whatever the model...and never look back. The world of electronic callers is a constant game of upgrading...you start with a casette player, then you get a cd player, and then woo hoo...you move up to a mp3 player, and then after a couple years and all the money you spent on all these gadgets and gimmicks, you realize you could have had a nice foxpro to begin with. If you cant afford it right now, save up for it and learn to use hand calls in the meantime. It will be worth your wait. The 20 dollar calls are fine for learning how to make a certain sound, other than that you will spend a lot of time waiting for something to come in....and it probably wont.

i have the first and second cass creek predator call and they both have the same loudness. Unless you get the speakers for it. I produced 1 fox with it. But even so its only good for close range calling.

Bluedog, my guess is that if he had the extra $500 or so (or whatever it is) discretionary bucks, he'd probably go FoxPro in a heartbeat. Reading his message leads me to think that he's somewhat disappointed with his mouth calling results and wanted to try something different. One thing a Cass River caller can do that no mouth call will ever do and it's a big thing too. As humble as the Cass caller is, it will should keep the predator's attention fixed on the caller/sound and away from the hunter.
That said, he definitely should be thinking of going for the best (and that FoxPro has to be the champ when everything is taken into consideration)! I ESPECIALLY like that 7 year warranty you mentioned! I had a 5 year optional warranty on a CD burner and had to use it about 5 or 6 times, each time would have been close to the cost of the burner itself! Made me a believer in warranties for anything over $100!!!
