Cast bullet for .44 Super Black Hawk

I just bought a Ruger Super Black Hawk .44 Mag. I may hunt bear with it at some point. I know of a guy that loads 300 gr cast bullets and has had great penetration while hunting bears with hounds. Any suggestions on companies that sell cast bullets? I have taken kids bear hunting with a .44 240 gr hollow points and was not impressed with penetration at all, very poor.
Any pet loads might also be helpful. Thanks

I gave up the cast bullet business 2 years ago so i don't have any to sell. But there are others that still produce Keith style LSWC bullets. Just do a search on LSWC and Keith and you'll find someone.

I shoot a Lyman 429244 SWC loaded over 17.5 Blue Dot with a Fed 150 primer. In my DW with a 8" Barrel it will shoot 4" 200 M groups all day. I've shot 2 deer and neither went over 25 yards both pass throughs.

Now that I would like to see! A .44 Magnum revolver that will shoot 4 inch groups at almost 220 yards? All day? I have shot many a .44 Magnum over the last 40 years including Dan Wessons and I have yet to see that. You truly are an exceptional shot and have quite the exceptional revolver as well!

Hey- by any chance are you related to Elmer Keith?

My neghbor (82) knew Elmer Keith. He was just telling me about the shot Elmer made with a .44 while guiding a sport. I belive he said Elmer shot a deer at 400 yds with a .44 mag revolver.

To power them up for hunting you'll probably want a bullet with a gas check.

"THE" powders to use for hunting with a 44Mag are either H-110 or Win-296.

Hodgdon's reloading manual has loads for bullets up to 355grains.

Elmer Keith's book "Sixgun" is a good read for pistoleros

I've shot a fair number of 240 grain LSWC's in my 7 1/2" Super Blackhawk.

One thing I found out early on, is that unless you move that bullet to something over 900 fps, you'll have a hard time getting the sights to adjust down low enough for 25 yard shots.

The muzzle flip prior to bullet exit is high enough with the slow bullets that you may need a taller front sight blade to hit spot-on at 25 yards...
