Casting Bullets from solder

While cleaning out my late fathers garage I came across quite a bit of lead, he was a plumber. What sparked an interest was all the bars of solder marked 50/50, 95/5 and 30/70. I wonder if any of this would work for pistol bullets. I think the numbers are the lead to tin mix.

That stuff is all very useful. If you look up Cast Boolits forums you will find more information than you can digest in a short time.
One thing you must know is what caliber and velocity of bullets you would wish to cast. That will determine what alloy you would need.
Welcome to another addictive hobby. It may be cheaper, but I shoot a lot more. What's not to like?

Thanks mulespurs, I'll check out those forums. I used to cast a lot of SWC from wheelweights, I think my mould is Lyman 358157GC or something like that. Its been a while. I won't scrap it all then!

If those are and numbers represent TIN, you are sitting on a small pile of money. TIN is quite expensive. Don't just cast with the 50/50, your boolits will turn out too light. The 95/5 actually has too much TIN, but it will be fine to cast with. You really don't want more than 2-3% TIN in your mix. Anymore and it's just wasted TIN and money.
I've coasted many a thousand boolits, both pistol and rifle.
The Castboolits forum has a lot of great information. You can get lost in that sight. Feel free to PM me if you questions.
