Got a call from a Landowner about 4 Coyotes giving him problems so the Flea and I went hunting. It was a bright sunny day with temperatures in the high 80s and no wind. Most of the land is open so we rode through and saw nothing. Everyone seems to see these coyotes but us. We stopped where the river makes a large bend. On one side there was a few woods with a large depression running from side of the river to the other. I put the Flea with his 243 in the bottom of the depression where he would have a clear 100 yd shot almost all the way around. I put the Foxpro and JIB in the middle of the field about 75 yds out. I moved down 50 yds and took the same stand. I noticed that the decoy was not working and later found that I had jarred the batteries out. I gave a couple of howls then played Jackrabbit buffet. Ten minutes and nothing. I then picked up my hand call made by Mike Schrader and started calling. The Flea joined in. The Flea was still calling when I saw a head looking down into the depression. The Flea stopped calling and I saw a Bobcat belly crawl to the crest looking down in the depression. One shot from the 308 and it disappeared. Nothing else came in so we went out and found the Bobcat had been literally picked up and thrown back about 3 feet. He was DRT. The 168gr Ballistic Tip entered the chest and did not exit. The shot was about 100yds. This cat came across at least a 100 acres of open ground in bright sunlight on a hot day. The Flea came up griping that I did not put a round in the chamber of his rifle and I wanted to know when it became my job to load his rifle. He also claimed he never saw the cat but he can see twice as good as I can and I know he did not find the empty chamber until it snapped on the cat.

The Flea and our cat. You can see from his hands he is still griping about the empty chamber.

168grains with no exit, from a 308. I bet that put the 'whop' on him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Great story and pic of the Flea.

Thanks for sharing...

Ain't that the truth!! Last month I talked to a guy that claimed to be seeing 50 coyotes a week on his property where he runs a pheasant operation. Through the course of a couple phone conversations that number dropped dramatically. So much so, that I decided not to hunt his land.

Ahh, the joys of youth. Dang it Dad, you messed me up! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Tell the Flea to just chalk it up to another lesson learned. Good story!

Better watch out. The Flea may try to get even!

Nice story and picture. Is that a Yahama Rhino? How do you like it, whatever it is, performance etc?

Nice cat and too bad the flea didn't see the cat I have never shot one and I am almost 30, how cool that would have been for him.

It is a Rhino and so far it has been great. These things do cost more than you think adding all the required accessories.

Actually the Flea has killed more cats than Coyotes. Not sure how many he has killed but he has four in his room with a Hog a Deer, a Fox, and a Badger. He did not kill the Badger.

good piture good story. im new to this site. i live in pennsylvania little town of clearfield almost center of the state. i've never taken a cat but have seen plenty. in my state tou have to get a special permit for them, lottery style, and can only harvest one per season. now in my state they say that there are no big cats. but my son and i were at camp well off the beaton trail for the july 4th holiday.the first morning there we grabbed our rods and walked an old logging rosd that runs next to the stream.the road is very damp almost the entire year and there in the mud was cat tracks very large. we went back to camp grabbed camera @tape measure. the traks were a constant 45 inches apart. we took photos but later found out the exposure wasnt the best no clear photos. but we had made a trip into town later and bought five pounds of plaster of paris .later that eving we made nine good castings. the one cast even had three hair fibers in it. would like to get them tested because our game commision says there ar no mountain lions in pa.the next weekend i got to see the cat while on my four wheeler...no camera.no more sightings of that cat rest of year but did find one more track in a puddle in late october. there have been reported sightings from other people in our area about five miles away in july as well so if any one else in pa has had any sightings or photos please let us know thank you.

all my castings are down at camp. i am pretty computer illerite so i will have to get my daughter to help me with that. there are some nice photos i would like to post of different items.i got some very nice photos of a coyote locked up hunting a groundhog at two in the afternoon on a sunny sept. day he didnt get the hog. but it was the longest time i got too watch one without a weapon of any kind
