Catahoula Bulldogs

If you want a catahoulla / bulldog cross, your best bet is gonna be one of the hog guys down south.
I see "ad's" once in awhile.

i look all the time for a cat bull, hard to find a decent breeder who has AB's that arent so "bully" or johnson types...if i ever find one im content with i'll let ya know

Why are you looking for this particular cross? Just curious. They are pretty common down here in the South. They are crossed frequently and used as "running catch dogs" for hog hunting. The Cat x Dogo cross is becoming more and more common down here as well.
Like this one...

It's one of Douglas Mason's in South Texas. I had the pleasure of hunting with him once a few years ago. The man has forgotten more about Cats than most people will ever know. Google Douglas Mason Catahoulas to find his site.

I don't need any "Bulldog blood" in my lines, I decoy yotes, run a few hogs, and blood trail anything with feet.
I want lighter faster dogs, not heavier.
Not saying its a bad cross, just not the answer for me.
I also would like to know your "goal". There may be other choices. If you want "running catch dogs", a large frame catahoulla will get it done. Just be aware that as you increase size, you decrease speed, and endurance for a long chase.
The "Dogo crosses" seem to be "gettin it done". I have hunted over some, and they were good.
Nice balance between speed, grit, nose, and endurance.
Just what I have seen.

we run across them quite a bit here in texas. probably find you one pretty quick. saw a catdo for sale that came from mr mason.

Thanks for all the info fellas. Duane, You are probably right, a large frame Catahoula would probably do fine.

To be honest, I'm really look'n for a do all dog that is a little "different". I've got a Catahoula now and he is great. Would like a dog that has a little more muscle but will still run. Like ya all said. A running catch dog but, I want to make sure that it is a breed that is good with kids. I haven't heard that about the dogo. Maybe the cross with a cat is better. Only heard this so if i'm wrong don't be offended. Those catdogo's look and sound great.
I'm not nearly as educated as u fellas when it comes to dogs so please forgive my ignorance.

I love the Catahoulas. Mine are great with the kids. I have done some research on the Dogo and they are great family pets as well.

The Dogo Argentina has a very interesting history. Check out the recipe of breeds. From dogo.org........

The history of the Dogo Argentino and the two brothers who created the breed is as colorful and passionate as the history of Argentina itself. Antonio Nores Martinez was not quite 18 years old and Agustin a year younger in 1925 when Antonio first conceived of and took the first step in his vision of a large game breed created specifically for the varied and rugged Argentine countryside.

The formula Antonio started was:

1) the Fighting Dog of Cordoba, to which he added blood from
2) the Pointer to give him a keen sense of smell which would be essential for the hunt.
3) The Boxer added vivacity and gentleness;
4) the Great Dane it's size;
5) the Bull Terrier, fearlessness;
6) the Bulldog gave it an ample chest and boldness;
7) the Irish Wolfhound brought it's instinct as a hunter of wild game;
8) the Dogue de Bordeaux contributed it's powerful jaws;
9) the Great Pyrenees it's white coat and
10) the Spanish Mastiff gave it's quota of power.

Now thats a whole mess of tough dogs right there. Keep in mind this was 1925 when all of these breeds were still hunting breeds except the Cordoba. Not pet store dogs like they are today.

I have been around some "Dogos" and they were good hunters and good around people.
As with any breed, you will find "superstars, and dinks", depending on breeding.

we have a dogo that we use as a lead in catchdog he is great. we have never had a problem with his temperment. and thre is no dobt if cut him loose he will hunt as hard as our strike dogs.

Here is our Dogo. Gringo. Weighs about 110lbs.
You can put him in the dog box with any other dog, male or female. He has never even growled at anyone. He is very mannered. Never had a problem with him.
He is the big white one in the vest.

Awsome dogs! The Dogo breed has had my interest for quite a while. I have done alot of research on them. I just dont know how they would fit in here in Wyoming. Bar M do you use them for other things besides chasing hogs? I am curious about the breed.

If you are looking for a running catch dog that is "different", I've got a lead on some young birddog/greyhound crosses. Also, there are some Dogo/Mastiff pups available, just down the road from me.

Also, I have a 6 month old Catahoula/Rhodesian Ridgback female that I'm starting to train, that I'd part with. Solid brindle with the ridge down her back. She should be able to cover some ground, when she grows up more. Very much a puppy now, but has a heck of a nose and showing good interest.

One of my best dogs was a greyhound/pit that we bred. My kids would ride on his back, when they were little. Super friendly dog...but hated coyotes.

Oh I know Mr Mason fairly well. I think everybody does down here! He's the first person that introduced me to hog dogging... good ole fella. Your catdo looked like a dog out of his yard... and do it is!

Sorry for the hijack.
