CC Hand gun for a lady

I found several local to choose from
LCP 380 for $380
LC9 9mm for $380
Ruger P95 DC 9mm $300

I have a P45 DC and its all I could ever want in a CC gun,its perfect for me so I thought the P95 might be worth looking at but it is a little larger but should be more accurate. What do some of you think? thanks
 
If it's for your wife, let her choose what is the most comfortable for her...even though it may not be the best overall choice by some standards....One that she likes will get more practice and therefore more proficiency, than one that she is 'talked' into...A defensive weapon in the hand, in an emergency, is a lot better than one that is in the drawer at home...

I have never owned a Glock but many love them. As some have said a revolver would be easier to opperate but some semi autos have less buttons and gizmos then others. K.I.S.S. is important for this person. The Judge would be great but it may be heavy in a perse.

Great point but its my 62 yo aunt that has never shot a gun and saw a 9mm auto that a freind had and liked it but she has no idea what it was. In the perfect world she should shoot some different guns then choose one that she likes for the resions that you mentioned. Thanks
 
I was to a gun show yesterday wanting to get a pistol for my wife. I saw 9mm and 380 calibers in kal-tec that were nice in size. I did not know about kal-tec and bought a s&w 9mm with the changeable grips. the s&w will be for home defense but too heavy for woman to carry in purse. would like to hear some input about about kal-tec, thanks Spike
 
My wife handled all of the ones you listed and ended up with the Taurus TCP, 380. It is a nice point and shoot gun. We have put about 300 rnds through it, not a single hiccup. I'm considering another one for a lightweight summer pocket gun.

Oh...and they're almost $100 cheaper.
 
In recent years I have been asked to help many would be first time gun owners (friends & family) out.

My advice for those beginners is always the same, "start with a quality Double Action Revolver in .22lr. The reason for the DA revolver is because of the gentle learning curve. Swing open that cylinder and the whole world can see if the gun is loaded or not. Why the .22lr? Because a beginner can/will practice, plink and enjoy the the gun without being intimidated by noise, ammo cost or recoil. If after gaining some skill and confidence an assessment of the potential threat by drug crazed muscle heads can be made and perhaps then go to a louder, nastier weapon if necessary. In the mean time, I for one wouldn't want to be facing even a beginner with a cylinder full of "Stingers."

These are also made in 9mm. I saw a matching pair in .380 and 9mm at the LGS the other day, with PINK FRAMES.
 
older ladies with no firearms training may have trouble manipulating a slide and magazine.

I would stick to a small revolver with a 4" barrel in 38 special.
 
You just can not beat a double action revolver in a fairly light caliber. They are as close to idiot proof as you can get.

In a high stress situation most everybody tends towards being an idiot.

"The Warden" seized a Smith Model 10 from me years ago, and has kept it since. She only likes wadcutters, but can, and has, shot the heads off rattlesnakes at 15 - 20 feet with it.

While .380s are great for concealability, they are hard on the hands of the shooter. My wife is a petite woman with small hands. We thought a PPK .380 might be a good gun for her. We rented one at the range for her to try. She fired two shots and then wouldn't have anything to do with it. The grip bruised her hand. She finally settled on a Glock 26 in 9mm. She loves it.

Revolvers are great for beginners due to their simplicity. And there are a lot of advanced shooters that love them as well. But if she is the type to tackle new challenges head on and spend some serious time at the range, then a good auto is worth looking into. The extra capacity is really nice.

Find a range that has rental guns and let her try them out. Good luck.
 
Go to a gunstore/range and rent a few guns and fire them.

If you decide on a semi-auto, load the mag with snap-cap to simulate a misfire. Make sure she can clear a misfire (tap, rack, bang) in less than 1sec. If she can't and it happens in real life (an attack) it could cost her her life.

My wife couldn't handle mis-fires with a semi-auto. She also could not pull the trigger on the semi-autos, or the Lady Smith, or the Tarus. The only one she could operate comfortably was the Ruger LCR.
 
LCP 380 hurt her hand to much,the trigger pull is too long and hard even to please me . Bought my wife J frame Smith Body guard with Crimson Trace lazer gip,she carries it every where she goes!!!!!
still got a little bit but she is pleased now . Hope this helps you !!!!
 
First and for most, remember that a handgun must fit the owner, you just can't go buy a gun because your read about it in some magazine. They have to point just right. So take your better half to a larger store and let her handle as many guns as she can and let her pick what fits and feels right to her.

Make sure she runs the action and knows how the gun works, I've seen alot of girls and small guys buy a guy just on holding it for 30 seconds only to get it home and find out they can't run the slide or the hammer is to hard etc.

No matter what you guys choose, shoot it, shoot it then go shoot it some more. Shoot it till it become a part of you.

Just buy a small frame revolver in 38, or 327, AND a 380 auto. That way your covered. I am sure you will find uses for them both.
