Changing Reticles on Leupold Scopes

I've finally decided after 30 years to replace the duplex reticles in my Leupold scopes with something else after having problems judging hold over on p-dogs in Montana last year. I've been thinking of getting either Leupolds "SPR" , Mil Dot, or Leupold Dot. One scopes on a 22-250 the others on a 25-06. Any recommendations?

In case you haven't looked lately this might help--- http://www.leupold.com/products/reticles.htm

If you are wanting to judge hold over, you might like a mildot. I don't care for them, but many people do. I like the target and Leupld dots... Good luck...

i have the boone&crocket in my leupold and it works well , i think they have one for varmit shooting also.you might to look into those, later donovan

The boone and crockett reticle or varmint reticle would work better for me, I didn't care for the mil dots, too big for precision work. Might work for a man sized target but not a prairie dog size.

If I was going to do it I would match the hatch.

Ballistically-Matched Reticles
At the Leupold Custom Shop, we put 50 plus years of scopesmithing experience to work, building a personalized, digitally mastered reticle from our custom reticle library, for the long distance shooter. Using state-of-the-art manufacturing technology the scope and reticle are perfectly tuned to your rifle’s ballistic performance. The result is a custom, long distance shooting system with astonishing accuracy. You simply provide us with the ballistic coefficient and velocity, or alternately, the specific factory load you are using, and the Custom Shop will do the rest.

There is a shop, in VA I think, which will install any reticle you can dream up in a Leupold scope.

He has been at it for many years and I have never heard a single complaint about his work.

A lot cheaper than buying new scopes which may not be exacty what you want.

Jack, that would be Dick Thomas of PremierReticles. I would highly recommend them for your reticle source, they can do exactly what you are looking for.

I just had one done at Premier Reticles. They turned it around in five days. They are everything they are said to be. The don't do anything except Leupold Scopes. Quality workmanship.

They're up in Winchester VA.

Hey Coach-- probably your best bet would be Michael O'Donnell @ T.K. Lee. He'll work on most scopes, and he does a good job. I've got an old 3.5-10X Tasco WC scope that he put fine elevation dots into for coyotes years ago, and it's pretty nice. Do a search on the web for TK Lee-- it should come up.

Hey Big Dog-- i responded to your post over on Nosler forum. Another option is to install an elevation target turret on those scopes and just use the lower post of the Duplex as a quick single stadia ballistic reticle. The plex reticles provide excellent windage (especially when applied on the same plane as the center x-hair [by using turret comeups], probably almost as good as the Varmint Hunter reticle, in tenths of a "plex unit"), and reticle ranging applications (modified mil-ranging formula), if so desired.

Thanks SSCoyote, I found the TK Lee site, and will place a call this morning . Hope they can replace the old reticle, I don't know if they can or do they just add a dot to your present reticle? But will certainly check it out today. Thanks for the lead.

A big THANKS to everyone who has commented on my project, and thanks for telling me about the other website offering differet reticles. I'm now waiting for a reply from Leupold as to cost so that I can compare it to that other website.

I've probably ruled out the mil-dot, but a single dot is still in the running. If the price is right, I like the idea of the SPR with the small ring and lines below.

Thanks Again

Thanks especially SSCoyote for the lead on replacing the reticle on my Weaver T-6. Contacted TK Lee and they said no problem , it will run me aproximately $65, and turn around time 4 to 5 weeks. Off in the mail in the morning. Thanks for the information, That scope has been setting in the closet for over 3 years. Now I have and excuse to get another barrel for the Encore ha. The scope needs a home. Thanks again

Sure thing Coach-- Michael's a great guy-- 1 of the best in the business i'd say. Here's to your Encore. I'm a SSP guy myself-- mostly long-range custom XP's these days.
