Changing the stock on my savage Model 11

Tired of hijacking another post so I will start a new one. My Model 11 has the cheezy tupperware stock from the factory. I was going to replace it with a Boyds Pro Hunter but now I'm hearing I will need different bottom metal. What will this consist of. I looked at Savage's website but don't really have a clue what I'm going to need for sure. Mine has a detachable mag that just clips into the stock and a bottom bolt release.

Spent the last hour trying to find answers and did. If you have a Model ll 11 XP, you WILL need to buy new bottom metal and a metal plate for the mag. About $90. plus shipping.

I assume you have a newer 4.4" action screw spacing if you have a bottom bolt release. The bottom bolt release will really narrow down your selection for stocks. I think Boyds is one of the only stock companies making them for a bottom bolt release unless you go with a chassis system.

I have the one that uses the Axis style magazines with the little plastic clip on the front which I am assuming is the one you are talking about. I have tried contacting Boyd's to ask why exactly they have the ability to make a Savage Axis stock with a mag well that will accept the axis style mag but they can't do it for the model 11 TH....never received any answers. I guess I just don't understand why they can't do the same mag setup as they made for the axis...it requires no bottom metal, you just snap the mag directly in the stock out of the box from what I understand.

I spent a whole night at work trying to figure this out and couldn't haha. I just picked my model 11 TH today and I'm a little discouraged but I got it real cheap

So I just took mine apart and compared it to a model 11 center feed I have. I the took the mag and popped the plastic off the bottom of it. All it is is a center feed blind mag with a bottom on it. The only difference in the stock is in the trigger guard where the bottom bolt release contacts the action. On mine I couldn't take the bolt in and out of the action while it was in the stock. It appears 30 seconds with a Dremmel and you can release enough for the bottom bolt release to work.

So what your saying is a model 11 centerfeed stock should work. With a little dremel work. And just use it as a blind mag??

From what I see yes. Maybe someone could correct me if I'm wrong. I snapped a couple pictures on my phone you can send me a phone number or email address and I could send them. I also read on savage shooter forum where a guy did the same thing but couldn't take the bolt out while in the stock

I compared the old style stock to the new bottom bolt release model. Looks to me like grinding or milling a small spot where the bolt release is would allow you to use the old style stock and turn it into a blind mag and do away with the detachable mag. I might find out if Boyds would answer the @#%&^ phone.

I'm bringing this back to the top to see if anyone else might chime in and give their thoughts. I think a center feed stock will work but wish someone might confirm before I waste a $100 bucks on a maybe. Thanks

Have you dropped in over on the Savage site, this may already be talked about there, but cant swear to that.

It would be a shame if a guy wanted to order a stock from Boyds. Eternal hold, no call backs, pitiful service. To bad, I have always had good luck with Boyds in the past.
