Cheap 9mm loads

So I went and shot a IDPA shoot last night and got hooked. So my question is what are some loads to use? I have a ton of mixed OF brass and 1k federal primers. Looking for a load and suggestions on bullets to use also. I will be using a Dillon 550 to reload on. Thanks

I would look at something like the Ranier or Berry plated bullets for your IDPA loads. I shoot alot of the Raniers in my 40, and they are good quality at a reasonable price, probably about $95/1000.

Another thing with IDPA is that you are going to have to meet the minimum power factor, so keep that in mind when working on the load.

You can get montana gold bullets for just about the same price as the berry's or any other copper washed bullets. They have many shapes and sizes and it is a much better bullet. If you shoot a lot, you can get a very good 3 case price.

SigPros, I just finished working up practice loads for my Sig-Pro and approached it the same way I do for my rifle rounds....I like to use a variety of bullets as well...115, 124, and 147gr in different configurations...124s seem to be the most consistently accurate with a variety of powder charges...My Sig likes 5.1gr of Ramshot Silhouette...clean and accurate..

Get the published max load for the round and drop down one full grain (as long as it doesn't go below published min load) and then build a series of ten for each charge weight, seating the bullets at magazine length...I'll shoot five at 25 yards at small targets and pick the best group and go with it...I just use a padded rest (rolled up shirt on an ammo box) for my shooting hold under my wrists..with a two hand hold for stability...

After I find the load I like, I set up my progressive loader with those specs and crank away...

The power split for major/minor calibers in IDPA used to be 165 (165 gr bullet at 1,000 fps), but that may have changed in the last few years...

I know that it was originally set up for the .45 acp shooting a 230gr bullet at 800fps would qualify...I kept insisting that my 10mms would over ride those but Bill Wilson was a advocate of the .45acp and didn't want to listen...

He's so stubborn about the 10mm that even though he has the capability to turn out great magazines, he won't offer 10mm mags for 1911 frames...I have to find those for a Delta Elite...fortunately I have ten of them...

I have been using Berry Bullets in 115 grain & Ramshot silhouette Powder with Excellent Results in my 9MM Practice rounds, seems very accurate & clean burning powder.

I load 124 gr. Berrys HPs with Hodgdons Universal powder for
my wife's S&W M&P 9c. I load her's down for practice to
4.0 grs of powder. That is over 1700 rounds per pound of
powder. That might actually be a bit below the published
minimums, but they cycle reliably, are very soft shooting, clean
burning rounds. I would load them up a few tenths of a grain to
make a power factor.

Ok thanks again. Going to try the Silhouette powder. Getting ready to do a big order 5k primers and 4lbs of powder and a couple K's of bullets. I really like this idpa stuff
