Cheap(inexpensive) Prairie Dog Scope

Hey grizzly204,

Wow, that is a tough one. My comments are assuming you want something to put on a long range PD rifle probably being shot off a table.

I have shot PD's with everything from a Nikon Monarch and Weaver K-8 up through a Nightforce 12-42X56. As is true with many things in life you get what you pay for. My scopes of choice are Lupe VX3's in varying forms. I recently have added a few Swaro's and they are outstanding. However, I have a few Monarchs that are really nice scopes too.

But, as we all know, money has a way of limiting our choices.

My feelings are when buying a scope, scrape up everything you can and then add another $100. Drink cheap beer for two months, cut back on cigars, pack your lunch, ride the bus to work....oh well, you get my drift.

Spend all you can possibly afford. You won't be sorry in the long run.

He speaks the truth.. Spend as much as you can afford and then some on optics..

Just remember that optics are the only link to a target. Varmint shooting means lots of time spent looking through something, whether it's a scope or binoculars. Optics aren't a place to cheap out. It's much nicer using good optics. You have some good scopes now. Keep buying good stuff. In the past I've bought scopes because they were cheap and seemed adequate, and the deal was hard to pass up. They weren't so pleasant to use and got sold.
