Cheaper deer rifles worth it?

I love my tc icon. Look for one on gunbroker. They are better tolerances than the tikka imo. Tikka is a very good gun though just not for me.

Maybe a few slipped through but recalls and discontinued after poor or no customer service don't speak well for it.
The Tikka has built a well deserved reputation for accuracy and performance out of the box and more.
No matter what I say or claim, the Tikka stands out by example.
 
Howa had some cool looking kryptek stocks but I don't know much about them so I will likely either go with the tikka t3 or Remington.

A friend of mine can get me an adl for 415 or a stainless adl for 479. I've always loved the look of stainless with a grey laminate stock. Could go that route and Convert the stock one day

My icon is much nicer than my tikka. Both in 243. At one hundred yards I am shooting clover leafs with my tc icon. My tikka will do 3/4 inch. I also prefer the bolt on the icon over the tikka. Now I would not buy the venture over a tikka. The icon was built before tc sold out and the quality was much higher than today’s tc products
 
I just sold a TC compass 22-250. While it was a $200 gun, that is all it was. Sold it pretty quick, would rather spend the coin on something a little better.
 
There will NEVER be a T/C that is a better rifle than a Tikka. It might shoot a little tighter group but not a better rifle. And thats my opinion.
 
I have T/C Venture in 270 win. Can't say enough about this rifle. I could post some 400 yard groups that would blow your mind (140 grain Nosler Accubond handloads). I won't though because they are so good that someone will surely throw the BS flag. LOL. Don't have anything to prove and I don't care because that thing still makes me giggle every time I squeeze the trigger

I never considered a Tikka a "cheap" rifle. I mean if I went to the gunshop and told them I was looking for a cheap pistol, would they hand me a Kimber or Sig?

True, they used to be cheaper when the T3 first hit the gun racks.
When reliable word got around about the out of box ready rifles the price naturally climbed and another price increase came with the T3X.
I have a better rifle that shoots great and is nice in every way but enjoy using the Tikka every time.
 
Among the truly budget rifles, IMHO the Ruger American wins. It's only Achilles heel is the magazine design. The latch is a plastic spring and my buddy took one prairie dog hunting and after 300 rounds it snapped. The next year with a new mag, about the same thing. But for a truck gun that sees typical hunting volume I wouldn't be fazed. I was really, REALLY impressed with the accuracy of the samples I've seen and the lack of copper fouling. I hate Remington factory barrels because most I have seen foul like crazy.

I put the Savage 10/11 as my next choice because if you so desire you can upgrade them into a truly accurate and premium rifle over time.

I've had 2 of the ruger American predators in 6.5 creedmoor and recently added a 783 to my collection as a throw around truck gun. I got it on a deal I couldn't pass up since it is in my favorite caliber, 22-250. When i sighted it in a shot a couple groups just to see and it was shooting 3/4" groups or better at 100 yards with factory ammo. In my opinion I like the way a 783 feels and shoots better than the Rugers I've had.

Agreed........Not my cup of tea but Tika makes a d*m good rifle.
 
Gun brands are like car brands, everyone likes different brands for various reasons. What I like , Joe Blow might not think is good, but it is good enough for me. Great reading all the different replies to this topic.

I agree we are all built different.
 
Many of the budget rifles today shoot really well. Check out the Savage Azllxis, Ruger American. T/C, and Mossberg. You will probably be suprised.
