Gona get my son a. 22 for christmas was thinking of a chipmunk cause he shot one before and it fit him pretty good but then i saw the rossi.22-.410 combos online he is 8 just want sure how long the stocks were on the rosi for him to shoulder it. Anyone have experience with the rossi with there kids?

STEER CLEAR OF ROSSI!!

Do you want a .22 or a combo??? For a .22, i would go with a savage or ruger 10/22. Mainly because he will probably have some growth spurts in the near future.

Combo: anything but rossi

Henry makes a nice little single shot .22 also. My daughter got one for Xmas a couple years ago. Seems like a decent little light weight 22 except the trigger sucked pretty bad in it. The pull was around 9+lbs but it cleaned up nicely and now is around 3.75lbs.

Well i guess i have some researching to do this week thanks for the replys most i really want to spend is $200 deff want a single shot.

For an 8 yr old? I'd say neither. Have had both. He's probably out grown the Chipmunk already. The Rossi is hard to work for the kids, stiff hammer stiff trigger.

I have 4 kids and 4 .22's for them. Spend the extra $ and get him a CZ Scout. I didn't want all of them to have the same gun but every time I've strayed from the scout I've been punished for it. Savage, Rossi, Mossberg are far inferior. Just keep the 1 shot adapter it comes with and you'll be fine. Get him a clip later on. Choice is yours.

My oldest son has used his Scout from 5 to 12 yrs old so far and will serve him for the rest of his life with a little length added on. It's every bit as accurate as my varmint .22. You just can't go wrong with the Scout.

I'm still working on outfitting them all with Scouts so if you want to buy a Savage or Mossberg I have them for sale cheap.

I would definetly steer clear of anything with a hammer, I bought my son a chimpmunk and he got one years worth of use out of it before the bolt broke $125 down the tube, I bought him a CZ scout and its a night and day difference, he can work the bolt and load the clip, and its a good quality rifle and it shoots as good if not better than my savage 22 bull barrel. Take it how you want but those cheap 10/22's and crickets and mossbergs suck. If you buy him a scout for $275 he will have a good and very accurate 22 for ever

yes, thank you.

I bought my 6 year old a Savage "Rascal". Its a single shot bolt action with a accutrigger and a safety instead of a plastic cocking device. I also liked that it had a nice adjustable peep sight instead of the cheesy iron sights, I've seen on other youth models. Very nice gun. I got it for $143. It was $167 (tax included) out the door. I looked at buds so I wouldn't have to pay tax but they were only a few dollars different not to have to deal with shipping. I also would have had to pay a $15 fee to my FFL to receive it.

^^ That's good news. I ordered a rascal for my daughter sight unseen and was hoping for the best. I pick it up tomorrow.

You will really like it! I looked at several options and it was the only one that was in price range and the best quality.

Good deal. I was hoping to avoid pink but I will do everything I can to get my daughter interested in shooting. Her 2 week old brother will get all the "krylon'd" hand downs.

Do you think this would fit an 8 year old for the OP?

It will, but it will be too small before long. the whole gun is only 30" long and it has a 16" barrel. I got my 10 and 11 year old boys Savage MKII's. They fit them well...

Went to cabelas to get the savage cub they didnt have one so asked if they could order one the guy said no but i could call some cabelas hotline and order one asked if they could do it and the guy behind the counter said it would be easier if i did it. So i got kinda PO'd told the guy forget it and went to BI Mart and got the ruger 519 i think it was. Thanks for the input guys.
