Choate Ultimate Stocks

I am looking to change out the stock on my Savage M10 270 WSM it flexes a lot and last time i was at the range the stock screw was so loose the barreled action could be moved in the stock with light finger pressure. Been looking at the Choate Machine Ultimate sniper and ultimate varment stocks. They both are the same price the sniper has a wt factor of six pounds the varment is only four they are both Rynite and fiberglass. I like the features like the adjustable length and Bipod mounts, the sniper stock even has cut outs for adding cammo. But I am undecided on which one I like them both and they are the same price. has anyone got an opinion of one or/over the other and why? I do not find the two pounds wt differance to really be a factor Thanks in advance /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

If weight is not a problem they should do you fine. Personally I like the laminated wood stocks better. Boyds sells both the standard stock and the thumbhole stock for your Savage. I've got a friend that shoots one of the Choate's on a Rem 700 and he likes if fine, but it made the rifle a bunch heavier and that's not a good thing for a calling rifle. For a PD gun it works fine.

Some like them and others hate them. I own two. One came on my Saveage Sniper and the other I bought after market. I happen to like them for what I'm using them for. P-dogs. They are nothing I would ever want to carry for any distance. Try here www.uws.com

I have all of my savages in choate stocks. I have three varmint stocks and one sniper. I like em all! I use mine for long range groundhog hunting in the summer and fall months, slap on a harris bipod and off to the races. They are very sturdy, very solid and I really dont have anything bad to say about them. I just put my 308 in a sniper model and it kicks about like a 223...I can watch the hits on paper at 100 yards...I like that a lot. I dont know if I would carry the sniper for a calling rifle, but I would for sure carry the varmint stock, no doubt about it. Its a love hate thing man, you gotta love em, or you will hate em. Plus I think they look kinda neat too.

Here is my 243 in the varmint stock.

Go for the Choate....I Love Mine!!!

I agree with everyone else. I have one on a bull barreled savage and I like it for prarie dog shooting but it is way too heavy to carry around for coyotes.

Count me as one of the haters. I feel that Choate, especially the Ultimate Sniper, is possibly the worst stock ever designed. They weigh a ton and are still very flimsy. The bottom of the forearm is not flat which makes it very difficult to shoot off of sandbags or regular rests. The screw in the bottom of the stock for adjusting height has about 1/8" of play in it which gives you lots of wobble.

The only good thing about them is that they are cheap, at least they used to be.

I have the Ultimate Varmint stock on my 12 FV.. Its heavy.. does it make the gun feel better ? Yes.. Heavier ? Extremely ! I think I have a 13 lb Rifle now.. lol But I do like the feel of the stock..
